As someone who had never experienced a divorce, I put my faith into the supposed expertise of a $500 an hour lawyer. My psycho ex-husband had systematically taken meetings with every decent lawyer within Westchester, so I was relieved when she was available -- should have been a red flag. At our ...initial meeting, Ms. Hoffman SEEMED compassionate, knowledgeable and proactive. Divorce is a stressful, chaotic and difficult process and I looked to her for guidance in every aspect. Little did I know at the time that Ms. Hoffman had essentially "phoned in" my case. She did the bare minimum in advocating for a just solution: I should have picked up on this dynamic as every conversation was an attempt to demolish any expectation I had for equity and fairness. I realized later that she is only interested in cases that require judicial intervention or the myriad of mechanisms that add to one's bill. There were multiple typos on my documents, clear indicators of a cut and paste job by the paralegal actually doing the work. Ultimately, I received a settlement amount that barely eclipsed what she was paid for her "advocacy". More so, I received incorrect tax advice that ties me legally to my ex-husband and has yet to be resolved by the IRS years later. She sucks. AVOID.
