Evan Daniel Schein

Evan did such a great job with my case. He handled it efficiently and professionally, but always listened to my concerns and objectives. He was very capable and on top of my case. I always felt like he gave a lot of attention to me and that he was up to date on everything. The outcome Evan procured for me was better than I ever could have imagined. He negotiated a very good settlement and did it very quickly. His advice led me to an outcome that avoided a drawn out trial, stress, and unpleasantness. On top of this, he is also very nice, so that made everything easier.

Coming onto the case in its second year, Evan masterfully guided a sour divorce negotiation into a fair out-of-court settlement. He provided expert leadership and kept things moving forward, even when a resolution appeared impossible. I am rating his responsiveness as "excellent" because I know he had a huge workload during this stretch and still got back to me immediately, whenever I would call or email him. His other three rating categories can only be evaluated as excellent - he's exceptionally trustworthy and knowledgable; he always kept me in the loop, forwarding me emails between lawyers, etc. I never felt left out. Outside of the rating categories, I would like to mention that Evan was laudable in his ability to prioritize achievable goals. He did his best to minimize my legal costs by limiting the communication to issues where progress could be made. During this long negotiation process, I encountered many chances to lament my situation. When I couldn't help but express my frustrations, Evan was a good listener, but would quickly redirect the momentum towards what could be accomplished. Eventually I came to realize that my legal representation was centered around getting a fair deal, not around indulging my grievances. After the first year of stalled divorce negotiations, I was dismayed to hear that my original lawyer had chosen to move to California. I didn't know what would happen, whether I would be starting from zero, changing course, dissatisfied with a new lawyer in this purgatory, or worse. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. Evan turned a stalemate into a victory for both sides, and especially for my kids. Although this case was settled out of court, Evan represented me twice in the courtroom for pre-trial proceedings. His interactions with the judge, the judge's secretary and the adversary's legal representation were calm and smooth, as well as professional and quick. The turning point of the case was Evan's masterful request to have the very agitated judge address the parties directly. To say it metaphorically: Evan had both parties "stand in front of a train"...and "the train" only hit my adversary. The judge mandated a resolution to the key sticking point in the case (joint vs. full legal custody) and three months later we had a fully executed agreement. I realize that a whitewash of "excellent"s in the ratings above may appear overly generous, but it's the accurate reflection of my experience with Evan. I can't recommend him highly enough...if there was another level available, he would get "super-excellent" in all four categories. I am so grateful that he represented me in this case.

Prior to going through what ended up being a messy divorce, I decided to employ Evan Schein/Berkman to represent me . I could not be more pleased with my decision. Unlike many other lawyers, Evan made me feel like a person as opposed to just another client among the masses. He took the time to understand and answer the many questions I had, even making the effort to come to my house to give me sound legal advice, which ended up benefiting me greatly. Evan was very knowledgeable about the nuances of prenups and made sure to explain all of the edits he recommended with respect to the language and form of the prenup. While these legal agreements can take a life of their own (lawyers sometimes cannot help themselves), Evan made sure to remain in the essence of agreement between my now-wife and myself. Evan's guidance, in what can be a delicate and awkward time between you and your better half, was much appreciated.

I have had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Schein about an on going matter over the last few years. Frankly, without his help, I don't know where I would be today. His knowledge, and passion for family law is only matched by his determination to protect, and always act in the best interest of his clients.
