About Barbie

Biography

Barbie D. Lieber , of Lieber & Lieber, LLP, treats her clients with dignity and compassion. Her interpersonal skills and knowledge help to ease the anxiety felt by many of her clients, particularly those clients who are undergoing enormous financial stress or other types of stress. The legal process can be daunting and Ms. Lieber does everything she can do to make it stress free. She takes prides on being very approachable and available to her clients. Her clients never feel alone, but very much part of the process. Her clients contact her directly rather than paralegals as Ms. Lieber believes that with 23 years of legal experience, she is best suited to address all of her clients concerns. Barbie D. Lieber is head of the Firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditor & Debtor Rights and Collections practice and Commercial and Employment Litigation practice, and co-head of the Firm's Real Estate and Employment/Benefits practices. She began her career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Cornelius J. Blackshear of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. She was previously associated with Tenzer Greenblatt LLP, Luskin Stern & Eisler and White & Case LLP. Ms. Lieber received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Stony Brook (B.S., 1984, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society) and her law degree from SUNY Buffalo, (J.D., 1987, with honors). Ms. Lieber is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Bruce J. Lieber, of Lieber & Lieber, LLP, is head of the Firm’s Corporate/Business practice and co-head of the Firm’s Real Estate and Employment/Benefits practices. He was previously Counsel to Dechert LLP. Prior to that, he was associated with Olwine, Connelly, Chase, O’Donnell & Weyher and before that Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon. Mr. Lieber received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Albany (B.S., 1982, magna cum laude) and his law degree from SUNY Buffalo, (J.D., 1985, with honors), where he was a member of the Buffalo Law Review. Mr. Lieber is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is on its Legal Referral Panel for Corporate, Contracts and Real Estate Law.

A Life Saver!

Barbie was absolutely fantastic to work with and helped ease my family through a really difficult time. I don’t know what I would have done. She literally saved my life. We did a Chapter 7 and it was just discharged. I would recommend Barbie to EVERYONE and ANYONE.

Excellent! The reviews are true!

EDIT TO UPDATE: Five years ago my husband and I started our charter 13 journey and as of today our case was discharged, and we’re debt free! All of this couldn’t have been done without Barbie Lieber. From my first phone call with her I knew she was the attorney we needed for our case. Barbie is exce...llent, and you should look no further than her. After seeing other lawyers representing their clients at the first meeting, trust me you’re going to want her on your side! Barbie was kind, compassionate, and extremely thorough. She spoke to me like a person, never putting me down. I could call her 10PM on a weekday, or 8AM on a weekend and she’d always get back to me as soon as possible. My husband and I would love to thank Barbie for everything, and for finally being able to get our financial lives back! My husband and I had a considerable amount of credit card debt along with two student loans between us. The minimum payments were getting out of control and the student loans were unreasonable, and wouldn't work with us. We couldn't get ahead. I didn't know where to turn, so I googled bankrubcy and searched for a highly rated attorney. After reading countless reviews, and feeling a bit uncertain, I decided to put in a request for Barbie to contact me. Early the next morning I received a call from Barbie, explaining the whole process and going over details of our situation. She told me exactly what information we needed to gather and kept in touch often, while assuring me that everything is going to be ok. Barbie is one of the most caring, and wonderful person I have ever met. She was never judgmental, and always listened. She's available all the time, and I mean ALL THE TIME. She called my husband and I to go over the chapter 13 plan on a Sunday! Amazing. I've emailed her with many questions, and she was always quick to respond. At the 341 meeting we were able to listen in on other people's cases and the whole time Barbie assured us we were going to be fine. She gave pointers of what to say and what not to say. It's amazing how many lawyers didn't have their information in order. Papers misssing, wrong information, plans not complete. Barbie on the other hand had everything in order. When I say my husband and I got up faster than we sat im not exaggerating! We seriously were the quickest ones with not even one question asked to use except "where do we bank". Today, my husband received a call, as well as an emailing stating that our chapter 13 plan was approved! We don't even have to attend the court meeting that was scheduled for tomorrow. I couldn't be happier, Barbie saved us so much and finally some money can go to our student loans (which won't be discharged) and credit cards. We cannot thank Barbie enough! Considerate, professional, and respectful!

As with (presumably) the majority of Barbie's clients, I sought her legal assistance in a stressful situation amid an overwhelming amount of questions confusion. Almost immediately during our first meeting, Barbie settled the stress, answered my questions, and cleared up all confusion. Barbie took th...e time to get to know me personally and my situation in order to make the process as painless as it possibly could be. And it was, incredibly painless. I had some unique situations that I struggled to find answers to online (going through a divorce, owning interest in an LLC, navigating the means test, etc.), through her many years of experience Barbie plowed through those situations with professionalism, leaving no rock unturned.

Incredible attorney who is the expert n bankruptcy law

I work with many attorneys in my business so I am a tough critic. Barbie Lieber is an amazing, world-class bankruptcy attorney. My case was complicated because it involved real property and marital agreements. Barbie knows so much about the law — not just bankruptcy law — that she was able to work... out extremely intricate agreements for every problem I faced. When I started looking for a bankruptcy attorney I asked three knowledgeable friends for 2 recommendations. All three came back with Barbie as one of their choices. And they said while both options were fine, I needed to call Barbie first. I am so glad I did and hired Barbie after one conversation with her. Barbie works tirelessly for clients and is optimistic but realistic. She told me what the Court would accept and delivered an agreement that I could live with while satisfying the creditors and the Court. To summarize, Barbie is an extremely smart, appropriately tough attorney. I didn’t understand how bankruptcies worked at all but she guided me through every step. Her advice in every way first class. Her knowledge of bankruptcy law is encyclopedic but she also gave me important guidance on budgeting, personal record keeping and other practical areas of life. Barbie not only helped me reach a bankruptcy agreement that helped me tremendously, she absolutely changed my life. My gratitude towards her is boundless.
