Steven R. Wagner

March 18, 2018 Here is scarcely the time and place to invoke one of my favorite axioms: “When you wrestle with a pig, you only get mud on you; the pig likes it and is better at it than you.” And yet… Legal issues do spawn big bucks; big bucks formidable adversaries, and of the type who routi...nely navigate the aforementioned milieu every day. As a former professor of mine would say, “I ain’t no machine.” And this ain’t no child’s play. There is certain to be more than one reason for that swordfish mounted on Steven Wagner’s office wall. My wife, Arlene, and I were “living right” the day we were led to Steve Wagner, looking for help with a proposed lease-buyout of Arlene’s rent stabilized apartment of many years. Steve led us through the quagmires, expected and unexpected, thoroughly explained the issues, demonstrated a jovial personality, often went above and beyond the call of duty and, at times, would seem to have put us to bed at night – all from the same office! Hindsight being 20/20, it is well nigh inconceivable we ever even contemplated “going” such a venture alone. And so, with the ongoing diaphragmatic, “Whew!” and a hearty, “Hi-Yo, Silver, Away!” we now view the world from different climes. For Arlene, it’s coaching classical singers from the bench of a completely rebuilt Steinway grand piano; for me-- a cool cocktail on the patio of our recently-purchased home, with dinner simmering on the stove. Did I say I was retired? Did I mention I like to cook? Thanks, Steve.

I read about Steve Wagner over the internet, when I was researching rent stabilization apartment buy-outs. He was quoted in a couple of articles, and I liked what he had to say and thought he sounded knowledgeable so I called him. And much to my surprise, he actually answered the phone. Having a good... deal of contact with lawyers over the years I was stunned, to say the least, expecting to leave a voice message and hoping to get a return call.
