My son and his friend both 21 years of age were arrested in Manhattan, New York in July 2015 and charged with a class C felony. The two boys could not recollect any of the events on the night that they were arrested as both were intoxicated. I received a call to my home in Dublin, Ireland to say... that both had been arrested and were been held in the Manhattan detention centre. Neither myself or my wife had any knowledge as to how the legal system operated even in Ireland as neither my son or his friend had ever been in trouble of any kind before. If you care about your freedom/life find another lawyer. I retained James for a criminal case, was told I'd only be looking at a certain amount of time worse come to worse, ended up getting double that time then he told me he never assured me that. I've tried to turn in paperwork to forward to the ...DA/Judge and it takes weeks for him to do that when were already running out of time. Prior to this he tries to tell you how he knows the DA personally and how their such great friends. He only moves quick on things he believes in, if he doesn't agree with your decision he won't answer your calls, then he'll blame you for not communicating with him. PRIOR to signing the retainer agreement which is non-refundable, he even told me we were going to revisit the crime scene, take videos, pictures, and reevaluate the case and go over it in its entirety. I was told we would do many other things to try and get the best outcome from the case. After signing the retainer, and paying him $20,000 we never did any of that, we never visited the crime scene, never reevaluated anything, and when I asked about it he said it was never necessary. So this is the quality of lawyer you get when retaining James Kousouros. James was supposed to be getting in paperwork to the DA/Judge for me weeks ago, I haven't heard anything from him regarding this, the only time I hear anything is when I call and he never has an update. I was involved in a car accident, and have been trying to get extra time between my court dates so I can get a sufficient amount of physical therapy and James has not been willing to assist with that. Instead he's been trying to convince me they won't do it and that I'm not really "that" injured and I should just go to prison.
