The Representation You Should Have in a High Conflict Divorce

Divorce litigation is not enjoyable to say the least. It is messy, painful both financially and emotionally, and in my case it was very protracted, lasting for 4.5 years. In retrospect I have learned the system is broken and if you are looking for any justice or equity you will never find it. If you ...have kids, the system is set up in a way that you cannot get a divorce without resolving custody, finances and all related matters prior to receiving a divorce. I truly believe in this way the system itself encourages the parties to leverage finances and innocent children as bargaining chips in a sick game of attrition. The judges are overworked and don’t care about you or your family. The AFC’s are just doing a job. The system is broken and no one is there to help you. So if you find yourself starting a divorce with kids and you have a contentious spouse my advice would be to realize from day one that there will be no justice. Your goal is to get as swiftly out of the system as possible and minimize you and your families exposure to this toxic system. Saying this, it is all very apparent to me how valuable it is to have the right representation. Not for the “win” per se, but to guide you through this process and not get mired in the emotion, jockeying and toxicity of the system. You need council with a steady hand to advise and guide you to conclusion in this broken system. I had the unique experience of having switched representation halfway through my case and I found my way to Margery Greenberg. Margery helped guide me through what I believe to be a very messy case and now looking at the outcome, I can confidently say that although I had to endure 4.5 years of pain, Margery helped find a resolution that enabled a path forward for my life that prior to her guidance was very unclear. Without relaying all the details of the case, through steady and focused representation, Margery was able to get an agreement that was palatable and most importantly reduced the possibility of conflict, minimized my exposure and charted a path forward for my life and the lives of my family. If you find yourself in a similar position to mine, my best recommendation is to find your way to Margery to represent your interests and try to get out of your own way. I did not do the best job of staying out of my own way, but in retrospect if I had just handed this over to Margery in the beginning and realized there was little I could do to affect the outcome I would have saved myself a lot of pain and suffering. Unfortunately, the system is only made to be played in by those who navigate the system on a daily basis and for that reason you need the right representation. Margery is a consummate professional who I could not recommend more fervently.

A Great Lawyer with a heart

Marge Greenberg was able to hold my hand while still dealing with the emotions that you go through when you have a high conflict divorce. Her colleague Sara Hiltzik was part of the team that protected my children, my finances and my life. She is just amazing.

Wonderful Person and Attorney

Margery and her office provided excellent service, demonstrating professionalism and personal attention to all details of my complex divorce. Margery was a human first and attorney second. She was compassionate and supportive and was tactful in thoroughly explaining the processes of what had the pot...ential to be a traumatic experience. Margery promptly handled any red flags or issues that arose from opposing counsel. If an issue ensued, it was handled almost immediately. I was kept apprised of all movements in my case and all communication was replied to in a timely manner. My case was very particular and Margery and her staff were diligent in their research to grant me a successful settlement. The time that was supposed to be the hardest period of my life, was made easier with my experience with Margery and her firm. It was so comforting and helpful to work with someone who you know will take the proper measures to get you successfully divorced. Margery is knowledgeable and proactive in ensuring the smooth processing of what was a difficult process personally, and I was very grateful for the confidence that her professional manner instilled. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her services.

BEWARE

1. Non responsive. Had to BEG her to reply to my emails. Sometimes it took WEEKS for her to respond. (Mind you, her bills came on time and were paid in full the day they were received.) 2. She ever had a good grasp on the all issues involved in the divorce, resulting in a poor settlement/result. ... It was not an especially complicated divorce (not a lot of assets, no custody, no property, etc.) so I'm not sure why so many things were missed on her end. 3. Sent me (more than once) confidential emails meant for her other clients. When I pointed out that she sent these to the wrong person, no apology was given - simply "well, you have similar names". UM. I just hope she didn't send someone else all my private information!! 4. She told me I did not need to attend a hearing, even though I was willing and ready to do so. At the next hearing, the judge admonished me for not being at the previous hearing. The judge said my not showing up proved that I didn't care - which was clearly not the case. I was just following my lawyer's advice! Marge did not stand up for me or take the blame for telling me not to show up. Overall I received poor legal advice and even worse client/customer service. I would strongly recommend finding another lawyer.

Beware

Greenberg recently represented me in my divorce proceedings. While she was quite compassionate and supportive, she struggled to argue persuasively on my behalf. She is not a clear thinker or compelling communicator. The result was a terribly sub-par agreement, which is now binding. I will always reg...ret that I didn't switch attorneys.
