Michael Fred Bachner

Michael concentrates his practice on white collar criminal defense and securities litigation. Before entering private practice in 1988, Michael worked as an associate for Benjamin Brafman, Esq., served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Rackets Bureau of the Manhattan District Attorneys Office; in the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York, and as an Associate Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for Prudential Securities.

Michael is an active trial lawyer who routinely tries cases in state and federal courts as well as arbitration. He was defense counsel in the largest insider trading case in New Jersey history, and has won acquittals in stock fraud cases including one in which he cross-examined Jordan Belfort ("The Wolf of Wall Street.") He has represented investors, broker-dealers and securities professionals in a wide variety of disputes. Aside from his white collar practice, Michael has represented various public officials (e.g. former NYPD Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik), celebrities (e.g. Robert Iler (AJ of the Sopranos); Bob Guccione, Jr. (civil matters), Carl and Robert Reiner (civil matters); and professional athletes (e.g. former N Y Giant Antonio Pierce), in business and criminal matters.

Michael is a member of the Top 100 National Trial Lawyers. He appears as a commentator on Court TV, CNBC, FOX Business News ( - 71k); ABC News, and is regularly quoted in the press concerning securities and white collar criminal matters and in a variety of publications, including BusinesWeek, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Michael has written several articles related to white collar criminal defense, for example, "Asking SEC About Parallel Criminal Probes, Information Sharing" NYLJ March 14, 2006.
