David is an outstanding legal resource. He is the guy you hire when you want straight answers and results. A walking encyclopedia with a powerhouse punch, David defended me and my company against a giant, publicly traded (NYC) corporation with deep pockets, and an internal and external legal team.
I hired David, because I felt I needed an attorney in NJ who could stand up to the NYC law firm who represented the corporation I was in dispute with. After speaking with 3 local attorneys, I was very unhappy and terrified of the possible outcome. Then, I was recommended to David by a friend of my wife (herself a respected attorney, who described Mr. Steinmetz as both humble and brilliant), reviewed his credentials (outstanding) and hoped he was available.
I expected to get his assistant or a voice mail, even a no since he litigates such large cases. Nope, I got David on the phone first try. I knew in just a few minutes he was it. David and I never met in person, only on the phone as we exchanged detailed and super lengthy emails (mainly serious ones) but some were really funny, which made this case bearable. David is an excellent writer and communicator. He gets things most people don't pick up.
Then, we actually met face to face on the steps of the Appellate Division. It was as if we had known each other for years. David's authenticity was humbling. He was immaculately prepared, eloquent and quick to his feet with deep, succinct knowledge. The opposing team was quiet on the issues he raised (how could they not be? David was right!). A refined, powerful force whose calm, strategic approach delivered everything I wanted: a win. I highly recommend David.

If you want your opponent’s heart to hit their stomach when they research your counsel, hire David. This is exactly what I was told by a member of the “other side” after he came to work for us following our victory. We had the best, the other side knew it, and it was clear that the Judge saw it too (we won our summary judgment motion).
David is a plethora of knowledge when it comes to commercial litigation and representing businesses in general. Combine that with his powerful persona, his calm-in-the-storm approach, and his highly articulate legal writing skills, and you’ve got a brilliant attorney that you will be proud to have in your corner. Throw in his uncompromising honesty, authenticity and his sense of humor, and you’ve got someone you'll be proud to have as your friend.
Litigation is rife with uncertainty, even stress. I am glad to have had an attorney -- and now a friend -- who was was right on every issue and who proved to make lemonade out of what appeared to be a sour situation.

Mr. Steinmetz represented me for the first time nearly three years ago in a complex litigation matter, and I still use him to this day.
I will always remember how I sat in the Court room, observing Mr. Steinmetz arguing our motion for summary judgment. He was prepared, his delivery sharp and clear, he presented the law and facts cogently and far more effectively than the Plaintiff's attorney. The judge clearly agreed with him on all the issues and ruled accordingly right then and there. But what really struck me was how even his adversary, the guy who drove me nuts for nearly a year, and nearly twenty years older than Mr. Steinmetz, said, "You're a damn good lawyer," shook his hand, and just walked off. Even the judge indicated his pleasure.
And anyone who has read his briefs understands what I mean.
Mr. Steinmetz is familiar with the most recent cases, genuinely works to understand the facts in all their detail, and is, in additional to a passionate advocate, a genuine person. He is a professional and a genuine pleasure to work with.
