In In 2014 my husband was in deportation. My husband and I have two children together and I have one from a previous marriage. My husband was a permanent resident for 20 years, but he never got his citizenship. Sadly, he was using drugs, which he hid from me. He had a problem. He got arrested. His criminal lawyer took no time really evaluating the case and let my husband plead to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was a drug user and not a dealer, but our lawyer told us it did not matter. A few months later he was arrested by immigration in the middle of the night. I went to immigration court on that first day with him and he told the judge, that the criminal case was not handled correctly and that he was going to make a motion to overturn the conviction. He also explained to the judge our family situation and said he would be able to make an application to allow my husband to keep his green card. Ultimately, Mr. DeCosmo got the conviction changed from distribution to possession, which was the real truth of the situation. This made all the difference as far as the immigration court was concerned. Distribution meant that my husband was definitely getting deported. Possession meant that we could make our case in front of the immigration judge. Mr. DeCosmo then presented our case to the immigration judge and we won. My husband was released from jail, his green card was restored and our family was reunited after almost a year of being separated. I was amazed that Mr. DeCosmo was not only an excellent immigration lawyer, but that he was also able to the criminal case. He is a brilliant and gifted lawyer. He is the best and our family will always owe a debt of gratitude to him.
