technically competent and very honest

Mitch Mullen has got to be one of the best divorce lawyers in NJ. My case was complicated. I went through three other lawyers. I dropped the three other lawyers because they either overbilled, didn't get back to me or were just incompetent. Mr. Mullen somehow navigated my litigious wife's lawyer,... helped to get a baseless Final Restraining Order dismissed and charged me much less than everyone else. Mr. Mullen is technically competent and very honest. I think Mr. Mullen also does a good job because he has paralegals which do all the admin work. So there's never a problem with scheduling, fees or reaching Mr. Mullen for an update on your case.

Terrible Counsel and Predatory Billing

If you want an attorney who overcharges you and provides no intuitive counsel this guy is your man. I hired him for a child support case and was told it would cost me 1500 to 2000 tops. He ended up charging me 5000. Hundreds of dollars for two minute phone calls and many other questionable charges on... the billing statements. I ended up taking him to arbitration to challenge his fraudulent billing. Although he was friends with the attorneys at arbitration one of them still ruled in my favor seeing the obvious extortion. The other two ruled in his favor once they got done checking on each other's kids and families. Before the arbitration he asked me to take down the negative comment I posted on here about him, problem was I made no post. There was obviously another person he did the same to who posted a review. I wish I did post it because he said he would forgive the balance of what I "owed" him if I took it down. Once I said I couldn't because it wasn't me he went forward with the arbitration in order to get every dime that he did not earn. He has since deleted his AVVO account, probably trying to avoid the many people calling him out for who he is! This guy was constantly missing key points about my case and provided no guidance at all. I basically paid him to stand in a courtroom next to me. My case would have been won by any average attorney with a heartbeat. He will sell you the world in the consult and completely disappoint you in the end and you will have to pay him as I did. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!!! You've been warned!

Overcharged and Underacheived

I wish I read reviews prior to hiring him . There are certainly enough reviews indicating the same ongoing issue that I myself experienced . Being charged for mistakes, constant over charging billing above and beyond the initial retainer , and not going through with the actual reason you paid the ret...ainer to begin with . I basically wasted thousands upon thousands before saying enough no more. He was retained for 2,500 for child support post divorce. My ex would not turn in his tax returns etc and Mr Mullen contined from Oct to February to utilize my money sending letters to his lawyer who basically ignored him and finding reasons not to file a motion ( which he was hired to do ) finally in February I had no choice but to drop the case - out of funds to float Mr Mullen. He found every reason to bill me and every reason to NOT file the motion I should have had . He then billed me a huge sum of money for glancing at a contract , almost 1,000. Another attorney I hired billed me 1/4 of what he did and took care of all my issues. Do not expect him to resolve issues and expect huge bills with nothing resolved. I do not in anyway shape or form reccomend this lawyer and wish I took the time to read these reviews prior to hiring / retaining .

While this review is anonymous I believe it is an individual who had a recent issue with her final bill. She came to us after her divorce and when she had defaulted on certain post divorce matters. These cases are hard to resolve and we disagreed on how to best proceed. The client then decided she did not wish to litigate the issue she first came to us with. I wish her well in the future

Amazing Lawyer

I hired Mitch Mullen for a landlord/tenant case. WOW! Mitch was always prepared and ready to go. Always showed up on time to court and keeps in contact with you if he is running late. Mitch is very easy to speak to and polite. He always is available to speak to you if you need him. Of course I won my... case thanks to him! Also the ladies in the office are amazing! They are very polite and professional. Thank you very much for all your help. I am so happy with everything that I hired him again to draw up a lease for my new tenant.

Do not hire this lawyer

After I hired this lawyer he did not contact me to discuss my case nor return my phone calls. Two days before my case I called his office and his secretary told me that he had postponed my case because he had another case scheduled for that day. I called the court and my case was still set for that d...ay. I had to dismiss this lawyer and represent myself in court.

This woman did not understand the municipal court process and the need to obtain discovery. I advised, after she insisted on not changing the date, that we would be there with her. She then decided to represent herself and wanted her small amount of money paid to be returned in full, despite substantial work by my office

Admonition issued in NJ, 2015

updated on 08/07/2015

An admonition means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The Bar gives the lawyer an admonition in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Mitchell’s comment:

“This admonition was a result of my contacting a witness of the opposing party via email because he was threatening my client. It turns out the witness was represented and I should have emailed the attorney not the witness”
