When an opportunity to purchase a specific property that checked a lot of our boxes came up, we were very excited. However, because the seller wanted to do a 'for sale by owner' transaction without the involvement of any realtors/brokers, we were also wary as we had only ever purchased/sold propertie...s in the traditional manner, i.e. with the help of a buying agent as well as a listing agent. It did help that the seller was a neighbor of several years whom we trusted, but we decided to give ourselves additional coverage by engaging a real estate lawyer to help us through the process.
