Sean devotes his practice to representing family law clients. He handles a wide variety of cases dealing with nearly every area of family law, including issues relating to custody and parenting time, alimony, child support, college contribution, removal/relocation, grandparents’ rights, emancipation, life insurance, and division of assets such as a business, real property, stock options, restricted stock units, retirement accounts and cryptocurrency.
Sean is an experienced litigator who gives each case particularized attention and detail. He approaches every case with a “two track” mentality—while Sean works to settle cases as early as possible, he also prepares for trial from day one in case a fair settlement does not come together. This strategy often allows him to stay one step ahead, leading to more favorable resolutions for his clients. Sean appears frequently in front of family part judges so that he can continue to hone his trial skills. This trial experience allows him to prepare his clients for the range of possible outcomes and provide them with an adequate cost-benefit analysis so they can make an informed decision to either move forward with trial or settle their case.
Sean places considerable effort into preparing witnesses (both clients and third parties) for the stresses and anxiety of testifying so that they can put forth their testimony in a manner that is comprehensive and understandable for the court. He firmly believes that ensuring witnesses are prepared for the rigor of a trial lead to better outcomes.
Additionally, Sean represents family law clients in criminal and municipal court matters when correlating charges stemming from alleged domestic violence or other issues arise.
Sean was previously an assistant prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office where he was assigned to the trial team. He regularly handled large caseloads quickly and efficiently, working on all aspects of criminal law, including charges related to possession and use of firearms, sexual assault, domestic violence, robbery, controlled dangerous substances, burglary, and more. Sean also handled multiple cases subject to New Jersey’s “bail reform” law, and has experience with both grand jury and jury trials. A staunch advocate for victim’s rights, Sean attended the prestigious Finding Words/Child First training, where he was trained on handling forensically sound interviews of children.
After graduating law school, Sean clerked for the Hon. Ann R. Bartlett in Warren County during Judge Bartlett’s tenure in the family division. During his clerkship, Sean was trained as a mediator and successfully mediated a number of family law cases to resolution.
Sean is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey and the State of New York. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section and the Morris County Bar Association and serves as a volunteer attorney for the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project.
Outside of his law career, Sean enjoys spending time with his family, especially during the summer when you can usually find him near the closest swimming pool with his two children.

Top Attorney
Sean Gaynor represented me for my divorce. He was straightforward and very professional. The adversarial attorney caused proceedings to drag out for well over a year, constantly attacking my character. Sean defended me while reassuring me her words meant nothing. Throughout several motions and le...
