Biography
Joseph E. Govlick has been a lawyer for over thirty years. He was Henry Rutgers Scholar at Rutgers College and went on to attend Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey where he was an editor of the Law Review. He is admitted to the New York and New Jersey Bars, the United States District Court for the State of New Jersey and the State of New York, and the Second and Third Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.
Upon graduation from law school, Joseph Govlick organized the first Legal Services Union in New Jersey, represented the Union before the National Labor Relations Board, and was elected its first President. After leaving Legal Services, Govlick became a staff attorney for the Center for Social Welfare Policy and Law in New York City. He later served as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender in Newark, New Jersey.
Joseph Govlick founded his own law firm twenty-two years ago. Since then he has tried literally hundreds of criminal cases including some of New Jersey’s most prominent murder cases. In state courts, he has tried cases involving murder, death by automobile, manslaughter, RICO, robbery, sexual assault, conspiracy, drug distribution, undercover sales, buy-bust operations, automobile offenses, DWIs, and a slew of others. At the federal level, he has represented defendants in some of the largest drug seizure cases in United States history, as well as in weapons trafficking, international conspiracies, mail fraud, wire fraud, and securities fraud cases. He also represents clients in municipal courts throughout the state of New Jersey.
Govlick has an exemplary record in all courts with an overwhelming win-to-loss ratio. He is well-liked by prosecutors, judges, and his fellow defense attorneys. He vigorously defends all of his clients and champions the Bill of Rights.
