Eric R. Posmantier is a founding member of the firm, and an experienced family law attorney who focuses his practice on all aspects of divorce, as well as post-divorce alimony and child custody modification matters.

Mr. Posmantier began his career in 1997 with a legal research clerkship at the Department of Legal Research for the Judicial Branch, Superior Court of Connecticut. He subsequently joined the Greenwich, Connecticut, firm, Fogarty Cohen Selby & Nemiroff LLC (“FCSN”) as an associate in 1998. He became a partner at FCSN in 2007, focusing a large part of his practice on high net worth asset division and support awards, as well as on complex child custody disputes. He remained at FCSN through the end of 2012.

Mr. Posmantier has successfully argued in front of the Appellate Court of Connecticut on numerous occasions, and twice appeared before the Connecticut Supreme Court. He serves as a special master for the Connecticut Superior Court, working with attorneys and litigants to resolve high-conflict child custody disputes at the Regional Family Trial Docket in Middletown, as well as assisting parties to resolve financial disputes in the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk. Mr. Posmantier served as co-chair of the Family Law Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association from 2003 to 2006.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and Rutgers University School of Law at Camden (where he was on the staff of the Rutgers Law Journal), Mr. Posmantier was selected as a “Rising Star” in the New England Super Lawyers publication each time he was eligible between 2009 and 2011. He was on a select list of Connecticut divorce law attorneys age 45 & under on and has since achieved a “Superb” 10.0 rating with more than forty-five 5-out-of-5 client reviews on .

In addition to his twenty-four years experience as a family law attorney, Attorney Posmantier is a graduate of the 40-Hour Mediation Certificate Program at the Quinnipiac School of Law Center on Dispute Resolution, as well as several advanced mediation trainings. He has also completed the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Interdisciplinary Introductory Collaborative Practice Training. Mr. Posmantier is also a certified and practicing Safe Conversations facilitator and workshop leader.

excellent experience

my recent divorce experience was handled beautifully by eric. i felt cared for and important and comforted through the entire process. his knowledge of the law and the process was flawless. it was paired with a real living, breathing working feel for the human element as well. we explored motives, fe...elings, and emotions before each difficult decision. i am a skeptic when one is "selling" themselves and their services but that NEVER cropped up with eric. honest, true, authentic and principled is the profile i left with regarding eric and his ways and practice.

Best Divorce Attorney You Can Get

I cannot imagine finding a more competent lawyer than Eric Posmantier. From my first consultation, I knew Eric was one of those rare people you meet with a blend of integrity, a desire to help people, and the need to do the best job possible with the least expense to me. Mine was a very content...ious divorce, and Eric and his entire staff went above and beyond for me. I first hired Eric as a coach in the early stages of mediation, and even with a background role, he was able to guide me toward the best financial outcome possible. As mediation moved into litigation, he stepped in as my attorney, and helped me to understand and participate in every decision along the way to settlement. It was a miracle we did not go to trial, considering the personalities we were up against. Eric is one of the rare not just lawyers, but human beings, who has true heart. His excellent interpersonal skills and profound understanding of the psychology of people make him an exceptional family attorney. A++ Attorney, Expertise, Counsel, Wisdom & Empathy -- a true 'Life Saver' (not a 'Shark')

I would definitely recommend Eric to anyone who has to go through the Divorce process or has a post-judgment matter. I have used Eric for both, and was extremely satisfied with my representation and the counsel I received. He has a truly unique perspective and approach as a divorce attorney. Unlike m...ost divorce lawyers who seem to (in a self-serving and destructive way) enjoy pouring gas on the flames and engage in pointless conflict, arguments and litigation with the other party (and rack up unnecessary fees), Eric understands the true emotional, financial and experiential 'cost' of divorce, and his primary interest is to find the best path to resolution and closure so you can move on and rebuild your life constructively. That said, if necessary, he'll advocate firmly and effectively to protect your interests, position and well-being. He is an excellent problem solver who comes up with creative and constructive solutions to complex problems. He has a bias toward non-adversarial conflict resolution, and will do everything in his power to get you a peaceful, cooperative and speedy resolution...yet will always stand up for your position and rights as necessary. Perhaps the greatest compliment I ever heard about Eric was when the judge in my matter voluntarily praised me for my choice of counsel and said I "could not have found better representation." There are a lot of sharks in the divorce waters -- Eric is NOT one of them -- he's a 'life saver' boat.

Superior Attorney

I was completely satisfied and grateful for the way in which Eric handled my divorce proceeding. I had the facts on my side, but was in a very difficult situation, and Eric and his staff handled the discovery and mediation with great skill, missing nothing and securing every advantage for me in what... turned out to be a very favorable decision by the court. He was constantly in touch and available, making sure I had whatever guidance I needed during a very difficult time. I couldn't recommend his services more highly.
