Eric R. Posmantier is a founding member of the firm, and an experienced family law attorney who focuses his practice on all aspects of divorce, as well as post-divorce alimony and child custody modification matters.

Mr. Posmantier began his career in 1997 with a legal research clerkship at the Department of Legal Research for the Judicial Branch, Superior Court of Connecticut. He subsequently joined the Greenwich, Connecticut, firm, Fogarty Cohen Selby & Nemiroff LLC (“FCSN”) as an associate in 1998. He became a partner at FCSN in 2007, focusing a large part of his practice on high net worth asset division and support awards, as well as on complex child custody disputes. He remained at FCSN through the end of 2012.

Mr. Posmantier has successfully argued in front of the Appellate Court of Connecticut on numerous occasions, and twice appeared before the Connecticut Supreme Court. He serves as a special master for the Connecticut Superior Court, working with attorneys and litigants to resolve high-conflict child custody disputes at the Regional Family Trial Docket in Middletown, as well as assisting parties to resolve financial disputes in the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk. Mr. Posmantier served as co-chair of the Family Law Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association from 2003 to 2006.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and Rutgers University School of Law at Camden (where he was on the staff of the Rutgers Law Journal), Mr. Posmantier was selected as a “Rising Star” in the New England Super Lawyers publication each time he was eligible between 2009 and 2011. He was on a select list of Connecticut divorce law attorneys age 45 & under on and has since achieved a “Superb” 10.0 rating with more than forty-five 5-out-of-5 client reviews on .

In addition to his twenty-four years experience as a family law attorney, Attorney Posmantier is a graduate of the 40-Hour Mediation Certificate Program at the Quinnipiac School of Law Center on Dispute Resolution, as well as several advanced mediation trainings. He has also completed the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Interdisciplinary Introductory Collaborative Practice Training. Mr. Posmantier is also a certified and practicing Safe Conversations facilitator and workshop leader.

Extraordinary attorney and special person too.

I can attest, firsthand, as to the very special person (and attorney) that Eric Posmantier is. He ushered me years ago through my divorce, shoring me up when I needed. I don’t know what I would have done without him those many years ago.

Incredibly trustworthy and fantastic lawyer

Eric and his whole office were a tremendous support through the divorce process. He consulted with me long before filing and saw me through setting up a QDRO process with a colleague. He has superb ethical standards and I always felt his advice was coming from both a legal standpoint and the best int...erest of my general well-being. I feel incredibly lucky to have had his service in a very difficult process. Based on some limited research early in the process, I think his fees are a bit above average for the Fairfield region, however his counsel was superb and actually made the cost seem very reasonable. I'd offer Eric my highest possible recommendation to anyone in my circle who was looking for counsel in a divorce or divorce related proceedings.

Eric assisted me in achieving the correct child support number post judgement as well as retaining my former husbands tax records. Because of this, and his hard work, I was allotted the highest amount possible by the courts. Eric superseded my original intentions. He treated me with the upmost respe...ct, was easy to speak with, always available to me and I would recommend him to my family and friends. After two tries at other lawyers, I was able to give my problems to him and feel like I could rest easily knowing he had my back.

Honest, hardworking and supportive

I hired Eric for my divorce in 2012 and again when my ex abruptly stopped paying alimony last year. Eric completely supported me through both processes and was a true advocate for me. His staff was also incredibly helpful. I wholeheartedly recommend his firm. With the second case, my monthly income h...ad suddenly dropped by 2/3 and I had no idea when or if I would be made whole. To save money, Eric and I agreed that I would represent myself during the "easier" initial court appearances, and he would work with me on an advising basis before each court date so I knew what to expect. We switched to a regular retainer agreement when it became clear there wouldn't be a simple resolution to the case. He was always fully prepared and offered various options of how we could proceed, and he gave me honest opinions about the possible outcomes of each scenario. He worked to minimize conflict with the other side and tried to reach a settlement. He is definitely NOT the type of attorney who encourages continued fighting in order to increase his own fees; however, when a settlement turned out to be impossible he fought hard for me in court and won.

Excellent and compassionate

I hired Eric for my extremely contentious divorce. He managed to get both parties to a settlement in less than a year in a very complex situation that involved legal issues in the US and abroad. Throughout the process, he has constantly reminded me of - and advocated for - the best interest of my chi...ldren, which was essential. The outcome has been truly exceptional.
