Eric R. Posmantier is a founding member of the firm, and an experienced family law attorney who focuses his practice on all aspects of divorce, as well as post-divorce alimony and child custody modification matters.

Mr. Posmantier began his career in 1997 with a legal research clerkship at the Department of Legal Research for the Judicial Branch, Superior Court of Connecticut. He subsequently joined the Greenwich, Connecticut, firm, Fogarty Cohen Selby & Nemiroff LLC (“FCSN”) as an associate in 1998. He became a partner at FCSN in 2007, focusing a large part of his practice on high net worth asset division and support awards, as well as on complex child custody disputes. He remained at FCSN through the end of 2012.

Mr. Posmantier has successfully argued in front of the Appellate Court of Connecticut on numerous occasions, and twice appeared before the Connecticut Supreme Court. He serves as a special master for the Connecticut Superior Court, working with attorneys and litigants to resolve high-conflict child custody disputes at the Regional Family Trial Docket in Middletown, as well as assisting parties to resolve financial disputes in the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk. Mr. Posmantier served as co-chair of the Family Law Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association from 2003 to 2006.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and Rutgers University School of Law at Camden (where he was on the staff of the Rutgers Law Journal), Mr. Posmantier was selected as a “Rising Star” in the New England Super Lawyers publication each time he was eligible between 2009 and 2011. He was on a select list of Connecticut divorce law attorneys age 45 & under on and has since achieved a “Superb” 10.0 rating with more than forty-five 5-out-of-5 client reviews on .

In addition to his twenty-four years experience as a family law attorney, Attorney Posmantier is a graduate of the 40-Hour Mediation Certificate Program at the Quinnipiac School of Law Center on Dispute Resolution, as well as several advanced mediation trainings. He has also completed the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Interdisciplinary Introductory Collaborative Practice Training. Mr. Posmantier is also a certified and practicing Safe Conversations facilitator and workshop leader.

A strong but compassionate family law attorney

I would highly recommend Eric to anyone who requires an attorney for a divorce proceeding where children are involved. I initially worked with Eric as a divorce coach for independent support through divorce mediation. His expert guidance on the different positions I could reasonably take was very hel...pful throughout the process. He was also very efficient in his time spent with me. Never did I feel I had a wasted minute of billable time. When I let my emotions start to take over and take positions that were not in the best interests of my children, he dialed me back and helped me see the wisdom or lack thereof in the position I was taking. He truly cares about minimizing a divorce’s impact on the children. When my mediation came to a halt, I asked Eric to represent me. When my ex-wife retained her attorney I saw that Eric quickly established a positive rapport with her attorney with an agreed principle of settlement. He then took the settlement and parenting agreement that was in process during mediation and led me and my ex-wife’s attorney through negotiations to finalize the agreement. Never once during the discussions did he incite me or pour fuel on the fire. I also was very impressed with some of the creative solutions he developed for some key issues that my ex-wife and I were stuck on. Although Eric’s focus is to get to a cooperative settlement, he was very firm on the positions that protected my interests, both in the short and long term. Eric was instrumental in helping me achieve a speedy settlement. Whenever I hear the stories of contentious and never ending divorce proceedings with self-serving attorneys, I become even more grateful that I was able to find and retain Eric for my divorce.

Professional, knowledgeable and caring

I can't thank attorney Eric Posmantier enough for his help during a very difficult time in my life. Eric's knowledge and experience of the law eased my stress and anxiety. His personal and approachable demeanor made me feel comfortable and not so overwhelmed. He took a genuine interest in the well be...ing of my three daughters and his attention to details has secured us in the future. Throughout the entire process I was always well informed, my phone calls promptly returned and all my questions and concerns were addressed. Excellent Representation

I would highly recommend Eric Posmantier as a lawyer if you are about to enter into the very stressful and painful world of divorce. Lawyers can generally have a bad reputation, especially divorce lawyers. However, my experience with Eric was completely opposite of what people say about divorce law...yers. Professionally Eric conducts himself with a high level of integrity and respect for the law. Throughout the divorce process, there are many decisions that have to be made. My experience with Eric was that he would detail the possible consequences of your decision. Reviewing the possible outcome and costs associated with it were always a huge consideration for Eric. Highly knowledgeable, compassionate, honest, trust worthy….these are all words that I would use to describe Eric. I consider myself very fortunate that I choose Eric as my lawyer to represent my interests in my divorce. Each day, Eric made a very hard time in life a bit more pleasant.

Highly Skilled and Knowledgeable Divorce Attorney With Heart

Eric represented me in a post divorce matter regarding unpaid alimony due me. Needless to say, we were dealing with a very contentious, obstructive and acrimonious situation. I was looking for a highly skilled and strong divorce attorney with a collaborative style to work with me, on my behalf. E...ric demonstrated that at the onset. From our first meeting and throughout the legal process, Eric provided me with options to consider and evaluate in order to make informed decisions. He is extremely knowledgeable, methodical, organized and resourceful in his approach without escalating the situation. I always felt confident and safe that my best interest was at hand. He was punctual and responsive to my calls and email – he's an excellent communicator with great follow-up! My experience has been that Eric genuinely cares about his clients. That came through to me by the way he conducted himself with integrity and professionalism and I was treated with compassion, respect and fairness. I highly recommend Eric!

Divorce attorney you can absolutely trust

Attorney Posmantier handled my case not only with the utmost professionalism, but also in a way that shows that his main concern is doing right by his clients. He explained my options clearly and calmly and acted both as my advocate and my advisor. During difficult moments in the process it became ...clear to me that he cares not for just the case, but for the person. He kept me fully informed at all times, and explained to me the rationale for both his tactical and strategic advice. He nevertheless made it clear that the decisions were, ultimately mine to make. He is very knowledgeable about both legal theory and case divorce law in Connecticut, but he was very forthright in suggesting when we should seek advice on esoteric tax matters from other experts. He was always very responsive and timely in answering my questions and concerns. Most importantly, he kept his focus on bringing the ordeal to an end, even when it would have been in his financial interest to let it drag on.
