Successful Apeal to the BFPE

In short, if you’ve found this review because you’re anticipating being denied your pistol permit and/or having a, you should save yourself the trouble and hire Ralph now. With my wallet in mind, I originally spent hours and hours getting free advice from people that appeared to be experts only to fi...nd out that everything I was told was inaccurate and just making it more difficult for myself. It took me a failed attempt at a hearing and a denied application to wake up to that fact. Save yourself the trouble and call Ralph sooner than later. I heard about Attorney Ralph Sherman from watching the BFPE minutes in addition to hearing other people’s success stories. Even though I knew I would have some obstacles in getting my permit, I foolishly waited until my application was denied by the town before contacting Ralph. The town denying me made me come to the realization that I wasn’t going to get my permit without having an attorney (the BFPE pretty much told me so at my first hearing but I was in denial and being cheap. As soon as I got Ralph on my side the process noticeably improved; he started by making sure I had realistic expectations and advised me of all the steps I could take for a successful outcome. The day I hired Ralph (summer of 2019) I saw the state was backed up until the middle of 2021 with hearings. Ralph thought we would be able to get the hearing moved up to the spring of 2020. To my surprise, he was able to make it happen in January. Even though it was months away, Ralph took time to sort out my errors on day one. I live a far from Ralphs office, so I chose to talk over the phone and email rather than meet for our first conversation, I felt comfortable with that having heard and seen so many great reviews. Once we had the official date, we had a meeting at Ralph's office (which has beautiful woodwork). Ralph was just as great in person as he was to deal with on the phone. We spent a while discussing options for a successful outcome and what to expect once I got into the hot seat. Despite him going above and beyond preparing me, I still got nervous as I sat down in front of the board (as anticipated). It was a relief having Ralph there to make sure I got all the necessary information out to the board like we discussed numerous times the day of and weeks/months leading up to that moment. I’m excited to say, because of Ralph's advice and great efforts, the board voted unanimously in my favor that my permit be issued. It’s now been a couple of weeks since my hearing, the town and state issued my permits and the process that’s haunted me for 10 years is finally over. I'm pretty certain that I couldn’t have had the successful outcome without Ralphs expertise, I highly recommend him. In my experience, if you're just questioning if you need a lawyer to help with your pistol permit application and/or hearing, you probably do. Call Ralph BEFORE submitting your application so can have the best advantage in getting your rights back!

Saved the day!

I hired Attorney Sherman to assist me in getting my permit reinstated after it had been revoked. He took extraordinary interest in my case, diligently gathering the facts and keeping me updated as to the progress and the process. One of his biggest strengths is that he has so much experience interact...ing with the CT State Police and knows the process inside and out. The outcome was that not only was my permit reinstated, I did not even have to go through the hearing process. I believe strongly that this outcome would not have been possible without the services of Attorney Sherman and I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone having permit issues.

Handled my case very well from start to finish

I hired Atty. Sherman to help me with my pistol permit. My permit had been revoked by the state police. He got me through the entire appeal process. He was very effective at the hearing in front of the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners. There is no way I could have done this by myself. Attorney Sher...man knew the law, the board, and the technical side of firearms. Another client who posted a negative review here makes no sense. He says Attorney Sherman expected him to defend himself at the hearing, which he lost, and then, he claims, he got the permit back on his own. So the client was ineffective at defending himself at the hearing, but he got his permit back on his own? Sounds like BS. I have watched Attorney Sherman in CT-N videos of the hearings. He knows how to handle these hearings. But sometimes he does get a client who sticks his foot in his own mouth so badly that no one could possible take the client's foot out. Probably the negative reviewer falls into that category.

"Whenever a client has a firearms-related issue in their case, the first thing I ask myself is "What would Ralph think?" There is simply no attorney in the state whom I would trust more to advise me on issues involving the details of Connecticut's gun laws. His experience in court and before administrative boards, his in-depth knowledge of firearms law, and his openness to help his fellow attorneys navigate these constantly shifting waters are all reasons why I keep Ralph at the top of my referrals list."
