pistol permit help

I used Mr. Sherman when east Hartford denied my pistol permit for the most spurious of reasons...Being frustrated yet a profound NRA member they referred me to Mr.Sherman. I cannot tell you enough how good of an attorney Mr Sherman is. First and foremost he knows the gun laws of Connecticut probably ...better than all of politicians and law enforcement individuals of Connecticut combined.. He will walk you though every step of the appeal process and you immediately feel like you have the right person on your side . Also , while i waited for my appeal i check the court records regularly to see the success of his cases... and he more often than not got positive results. His prices don't match the level of service it exceeds them.. He is a top notch attorney !!!!!

He said "Good luck!"

At first he initially showed a willingness to support my pistol permit appeal hearing. I had e-mail communication with him detailing the circumstances that led to the denial. Then I get a request to see him for an appointment in his office, which I did. He handed me back my documentation supporting m...y case, and wrote a 50% refund check. He stated, without going into too many specifics, that (paraphrased) our personalities "would not work well" and that I have specific ideas about this "case that wouldn't work". His tone suggested that he really wanted to get rid of me, so I did not press any additional questions. Did I e-mail him too much? Did I say something that pissed him off? Was there some particular aspect about my case that he felt he couldn't get involved with? He never directly communicated with me any of these possible problems/issues BEFORE the last appointment, and at the last appointment he never really went into any details. He just seemed keen on parting ways. No use trying to keep a lawyer who has made up their mind to part ways. Did not even recommend possible other lawyers who specialized in pistol permit denial cases as alternatives, just said "you can go find another lawyer". He did at least give advice to alert the Board of Firearm Examiners if you plan to drop your case; the worst thing you can do is just not show up.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Whenever a client has a firearms-related issue in their case, the first thing I ask myself is "What would Ralph think?" There is simply no attorney in the state whom I would trust more to advise me on issues involving the details of Connecticut's gun laws. His experience in court and before administrative boards, his in-depth knowledge of firearms law, and his openness to help his fellow attorneys navigate these constantly shifting waters are all reasons why I keep Ralph at the top of my referrals list."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
