I consulted regularly (ca. 5-10 hours in total) with Attorney Hieu T Nguyen when I was responding pro-se to a complaint for divorce filed by my wife. 1. top notch legal knowledge I don't have much legal knowledge to judge Hieu's advice but all his recommendations/ advice re. applicable laws and s...tatutes was spot on and never contradicted by the judge. On matters which were more complex, he wasn't shy to consult and test his legal judgment with some of his colleagues in the legal profession so that I receive sharper and more precise advice. 2. amazing at managing expectations From the first consultation, he was really listening actively at all my various ideas/ complaints and was very transparent as to which of these points may be viewed positively by the court/ for a settlement and which ones were more of an emotional nature and would be more challenging to defend in court. Sometimes what you need from an attorney is a listeing ear to hear you vent but after that, you need his view to see the wood from the tree: what is grounded in law and should be brought up in the courtroom or negotiation discussions and what would be better addressed with a therapist rather than a judge. 3. encouraging out-of-court settlements Throughout the six months when I was litigating in person, he was an awesome coach to focus my energy on settling the matter rather than chasing after every dollar and cent that I could eventually claim: 'don't go to the conciliation to win, but to get a deal' was a really precious piece of advice. 4. anywhere/ anytime I really appreciated his availability and Hieu being caring and very friendly. He has always responded dilligently to my texts and I knew I could reach out to him when emergencies arise (like when my ex suddenly filed ex parte for a Restraining Order out of the blue) 5. well connected Hieu provided me with very good recommendations when I was looking for conciliators or when I needed a bigger law firm after 6 months when we came to the conclusion that settlement would be out of reach because of exceptionally unreasonable positions from the opposing counsel. Finding the right attorney to navigate an unpleasant moment in your life is really critical and I could not thank him enough for recommending a law firm with an attorney who would have more time to prepare a trial when my case went through full fledge litigation and ultimately a trial. 6. reaonsable invoicing last but not least, I felt he was great value for money, definitely worth every cent he billed
