Michael Kaplan is a Senior Immigration Attorney at Brooks Law Firm, bringing both experience and innovation to his work representing immigrants throughout Massachusetts. He handles a wide range of immigration matters — from removal defense and asylum cases to family-based and employment-based immigration applications — while also helping the firm stay ahead of evolving immigration law by integrating new policy developments into Brooks Law Firm's technology-driven systems.
Michael's path into immigration law began unexpectedly, through a volunteer case he took on while working in a different area of legal practice. That single case changed the direction of his career: he realized he felt more passionate about his unpaid volunteer work than his paid legal job at the time. Inspired by the direct, tangible impact he could have on people's lives, Michael left his position, opened his own immigration-focused law practice, and eventually merged that practice with a larger firm to expand his reach and resources for clients.
Over the years, Michael has had the honor of helping clients obtain green cards or U.S. citizenship after waiting more than twenty years — outcomes he describes as a testament to perseverance and among the most fulfilling moments of his career. Michael is guided by a strong belief in preparation, drawing on advice from one of his law school professors that he may not always be the smartest person in the room, but he can always be the most prepared. That philosophy shapes how he approaches every immigration case: with empathy, transparency, and a clear sense of direction. He understands that every immigration matter is deeply personal, and he prioritizes listening closely to clients, explaining the process clearly, and guiding them thoughtfully through what is often one of the most stressful experiences of their lives.
In 2018, Michael traveled to Dilley, Texas, during the height of the family separation crisis, where he worked twelve-plus-hour days representing detained mothers and children seeking asylum. That experience reaffirmed his commitment to immigrant advocacy and to the human side of legal work — a commitment that continues to define his practice at Brooks Law Firm today.
What Michael values most is the spirit of teamwork that defines Brooks Law Firm. He sees every case outcome as a shared victory and thrives in an environment built on collaboration, mutual support, and a collective commitment to client success.
Outside the office, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their dog, and is an avid sports fan. Before his legal career, he spent a college summer driving Kilimanjaro Safari trucks at Disney's Animal Kingdom — an unexpected detour before his path led him to the courtroom and, ultimately, to a career dedicated to immigration law.
