Patricia Watson was my divorce mediator.
She was professional, impartial, knows the law, and has done this a bazillion times before, all of which was very comforting.
She was quick to point out when ex and I were interrupting each other, or seemed to be edging toward the irrational nutball zone.
She had tissues ready for when, realizing that hand and tooth homicide in an attorneys office would not be the most intelligent choice, I lost all composure and dribbled all over everything. Out of my eyes, I mean.
She reminded us frequently that the reason we were doing this and not getting involved in some doubly contentious bullshit was the good of the kids.
And she kept good humor through it all. I get the impression she's pretty much seen it all.
I hope to all that is good and holy I never ever have to go through a divorce again. . . .but if I did and needed a mediator. . . .yeah, I'd call her.
The office is in Newburyport, right down town, so if you need to wander about gathering your thoughts like daisies after a stressful meeting. . . .it's kind of nice.
