My family immigrated to the United States from India in 1981, when I was five years old. I grew up in the Bay Area, eventually graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.
At that point, being sick of engineering, I joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1997 to 2001 and again from late 2002 to mid 2003.
I worked some odd jobs in 2001 and 2002 and finally decided to go to law school. I started at Santa Clara University School of Law in 2003 and graduated in 2006. While there, I worked at the Northern California Innocence Project, the San Mateo County District Attorney's office and at the Santa Clara County Public Defender's office.
My last internship at the Public Defender's office proved the most interesting and led me to becoming a defense attorney. I started my practice after passing the California Bar Exam in 2006.
Since March 2007, I have been a member of the San Mateo County Private Defender Program, San Mateo County's equivalent of a public defender's office.
As court appointed defense counsel, I have tried over thirty cases to jury verdict with a significant acquittal rate.
I have often been successful in obtaining dismissals by filing motions and, when all else fails, I have negotiated many excellent dispositions.
Although a great deal of my practice is court-appointed, I do take a number of private cases.
My philosphy is to be proactive. If there is a defense to the charges leveled against you, I will find and pursue it to the end.
