Robert Muriel accepted our case after the previous lawyer basically thought our case was not worth pursuing. He quickly got up to speed on what is a complex case and conducted more investigation. He constructed a compelling motion and represented us at trial with a successful outcome causing the judge to rule the defendants “not credible”. Robert subsequently completed a motion which resulted in our being awarded attorney fees from the defendant. He also filed another motion in the same case which involved a deceased elderly person and the proper execution of her will. This part of the case has not yet been decided by the court system. Robert is a very intelligent person who is very professional in his preparation, knowledge and ability to build a solid case with special attention to detail. His communication skills, follow through, presentation and prompt response to messages and emails is much appreciated. He has excellent writing and computer skills and is very efficient. He is able to explain legal terminology in layman’s terms. Our case has been complicated but Robert has been up to the challenge.
The most experienced attorney's and realtor's had NEVER heard of someone being in my situation. Even I still can't explain how it exactly happened; I was involved in multiple sales contracts for one property at the same time (thanks to an experienced but inept real estate attorney). Threatened by multiple law suits I was forced to hire outside counsel/litigation assistance. I was referred to Rob from an experienced litigator/friend of mine. In exceptionally short order Rob resolved the situation with minimal cost. Rob was actually quite a joy to work with; responsive, proactive, kept me abreast of ALL things with complete respect.
Rob has my 100% sincere recommendation. I trust him unequivocally.
Robert Muriel guided us through an unfortunate experience which turned out as well as it could have. He was articulate, practical, and knowledgeable. I would recommend his services without a doubt.
Shortly after I hired Robert Muriel and his law office, something didn’t seem right. First of all, although I first met with Mr. Muriel at an office on Madison Street in downtown Chicago, whenever I called him, I had to leave a message or call him at another phone number. I later discovered that I was reaching him at his home in Highland Park, where it appeared that he did most of his work. Over time, I left messages for him, and it took him a long time to return my phone calls.
Shortly after I hired Mr. Muriel, I told him I wanted to file a lawsuit in Federal Court against the public guardian for a civil rights violation for withholding my inheritance money from me for over five years. Mr. Muriel assured me that I had a right to do so in Federal Court, and that he would file my Federal Court complaint.
Time was passing, and I told Mr. Muriel that I was concerned about the statute of limitations expiring, which would bar me from filing my Federal complaint. I should say that Mr. Muriel had already taken over the case that another attorney I previously hired filed in the State Circuit Court in DuPage County, prior to Mr. Muriel filing the Federal Complaint.
To make a long story short, Mr. Muriel finally filed my Federal complaint, on the last day I was required to timely file, from his home late at night, while I was on the phone with him. He continued working on it right up to the last few minutes, and finally filed it electronically just minutes before the deadline at midnight. Needless to say, I was very stressed. It seemed to me that he shouldn’t have waited until the last few minutes before midnight, the last day I could file..
He did spend time representing me in the state Circuit Court in DuPage County, before filing the Federal Claim, including a voluntary motion to dismiss without prejudice, so we could pursue my Federal Court case, but we had a problem, because the public guardian had already filed a dispositive motion, which Mr. Muriel already knew about.
Mr. Muriel told me that he did much research before filing my Federal complaint, and charged me quite a bit for it, but despite all his claimed research, I ran into a snag when my voluntary motion to dismiss without prejudice was denied in the state Circuit Court.
As a result, the Federal Court ruled that since I already had a case pending in the state court, that my Federal Court case must be stayed. I didn’t understand that with all the research that Mr. Muriel said he did, which he charged me abundantly for, why he wouldn’t know that this would happen.
A couple more things. For the Federal complaint, he used the very complaint previously filed in the state court case, which my former attorney in the state court case wrote and filed for me, almost verbatim, but adding some extra paragraphs. Mr. Muriel also didn’t even bother to serve a summons to one of the defendants in the Federal case.
Needless to say, I am very unhappy with Mr. Muriel’s performance, and I would never hire him again.
Robert H. Muriel represented my husband and I in two litigation matters that lasted for several months. Robert was professional, honest and competent. He always kept us informed of the status of our cases. We received very satisfactory results in both cases and I would strongly recommend Robert to others.
