State of Wisconsin vs. Sexual Assault Defendant

Case Conclusion Date: 04.04.2008

Practice Area: Criminal Defense

Outcome: Not guilty on all counts.

Description: After several days in trial, with extensive examination and cross examination questioning, Attorney Chris Van Wagner suffered from laryngitis, which the jury found particularly amusing when he apologized for his near-whispering voice at the beginning of closing arguments. Their laughter quickly turned to solemn witness of the life they envisioned for attorney Van Wagner's client if they convicted an innocent man. The prosecuting attorney attempted to overcome attorney Van Wagner's 60-second closing argument with a climatic recap of the emotional exposure suffered by the teenage witnesses during trial testimony. After two hours of deliberation, the jury brought in the verdict: not guilty on all counts of sexual assault and repeated sexual assault of a child.
