Jane Mapes has been practicing law for 36 years and for the past three decades has devoted her practice to family law in Texas. She previously concentrated on real estate and personal injury law in the State of Florida, where she went to law school and was admitted to the Bar in 1988.
Upon moving to Texas in 1996, Ms. Mapes was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and began practicing with a general practice law firm in Grand Prairie, where she familiarized herself with the courts in Tarrant and Dallas Counties. Jane then joined Bailey and Galyen in July 1999, devoting herself to the exclusive practice of family law in the firm’s Irving office. Since August 2024, Jane has practiced in Bailey and Galyen’s Bedford office, where she is the Managing Family Law Attorney.
Ms. Mapes has also been employed as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas Child Support Division, concentrating on establishment, modification, and enforcement of all child support issues.
Her practice includes, but is not limited to, assisting clients with issues such as pre- and post-marital agreements, adoptions, paternity determinations, divorce, child support and child custody modification and enforcement, grandparents’ access, name changes, post-divorce property matters, termination of parental rights, same-sex partnership agreements, CPS matters, annulment, and any other matter affecting the family over which the State of Texas has jurisdiction.
Jane’s commitment to accomplishing her client’s goals, with the primary purpose of ensuring the best interest of their children, has made her a fierce advocate in the courtroom, as well as a respected colleague in the dispute resolution forum. Jane has participated in almost daily court appearances throughout her tenure at Bailey & Galyen, and has mediated countless family law cases.
In March, 2008, Jane participated as an Attorney Ad Litem in the matter of State of Texas vs. YFZ, in San Angelo, Schleicher County, Texas, the largest and most notorious CPS removal of children from polygamous fundamentalist families in the history of Texas.
Jane has been a Board Member of the Dallas Bar Association Family Law Section, an Associate in the Annette Stewart Inns of Court, a member of both the Tarrant and Dallas County Bar Associations, a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, and a “Top Attorney” in Fort Worth Magazine. She is currently a member of the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts and the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section.
Jane has co-authored papers presented at both the State Bar of Texas 33rd Annual Marriage Dissolution Institute (May 2010) and the State Bar of Texas 39th Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar (August 2013). Jane has been a resident of Grapevine for over 25 years and enjoys the lake, hiking, and biking trails and spending time with family and friends when not practicing law.

I don't recommend Jane Mapes.
I trusted Jane Mapes to guide me through my divorce with compassion and professionalism. What I experienced was the opposite. She delegated my case to her paralegal, and communication broke down completely. They were disorganized, unresponsive, and showed little concern for the outcome of my case. ...

I was passed along to her by the firm.
Biggest Issue- won’t respond to emails and impossible to speak to. Even if you leave messages to her assistant Mary. I spoke to Mary more than Jane. My very first meeting/phone call with her she never introduced herself. She just said she works at the firm not telling me she’s my new attorney. It ...

Not what I was expecting.
I was looking for a lawyer and realized she wasn’t the one as soon as she accused me of abandonment and was giving me smart like remarks and made assumptions on my case. Next.
