I hired Scott for my second DUI which I received in Howard County. He represented me in court and at my MVA hearing as well. Throughout the entire process I felt very comfortable with Scott, his expertise and appreciated his responsiveness. His services were affordable and worth every penny. From the very beginning of my case Mr. Athen was very personable and accommodating of my situation. He went above and beyond his scope of responsibilities for me, immediately earning my respect and trust. He provided resources to expedite my case, in which the outcome was favorable. I found Scott on the internet while searching for a traffic attorney in Ellicott City for my teenager with multiple traffic violations. After meeting with Scott I was sure I had chosen the right attorney. He definitely knows the ins and outs of traffic violations and was able to get four out of five charges completely dropped. I initially saw one bad review of Scott stating something to the effect that he did not communicate information to the client. Scott always called me immediately after our three court dates to let us know the outcome, and at our initial meeting told us what his strategies would be for each violation and the possible outcome. Remember - you have to be proactive too. You are paying for services, so you should make sure you meet and ask questions. Scott always either picks up the phone himself, or calls you back as soon as he can. I highly recommend him for traffic violations in Howard County and would choose him again.

Before talking to Scott, I was stressed from worry about getting points and court date letter.
He gave me confidence in my case by explaining important things right on and the possible outcomes for my type of cases.
Also, explained what actions he will take and the good reasons for those actions.
I do not have to appear on court at all because Scott represented me in court.
I feel so much better that I do not have to watch the judge giving out sentences to people while I wait nervously on the court bench.

I did call other lawyers before Scott, but most of them was rushing to finish the calls except Scott.
My phone was not working well, and disconnected 3 times, so he had to call me back like couple of times before we were able to started talking.
Very good patient he showed, and it is important in my opinion for looking into my case closely with that.

Scott decided it would be best to go on vacation after my trial and not inform me of the outcome. I had to find out via the Maryland Court Case Search despite repeated calls to him. He is terrible at responding to calls and email. Communication is absolutely horrible and I would recommend representing yourself over hiring Scott Athen.

Upon retaining Scott, he jumped on the case, assessing the potential outcome. He clearly identified and communicated the steps he would take and the likely timing of how things would play out. Not only did he demonstrate a strong understanding of the law but also how things can work in the legal system.
