How to get a house that was left to me in a will in my name &get family members that don’t belong there out?
My friend’s grandparents passed away and left their house to her in the will. Several family members (aunts, cousins, etc) are currently occupying the home and won’t let my friend live there. They (mainly the aunt) have been saying for three years now that they are going to move and let her have the house. That has yet to happen. My friend is homeless and living out of a motel room at the moment. How does she go about getting the home into her name and getting the family members out of the home so that she can live there with her kids?
Has your friend probated the will? Has your friend obtained a judgment of possession of the house? Once those things are done, your friend can file to evict. If your friend cannot afford an attorney, he/she should contact the Pro Bono Project or contact Southeast Louisiana Legal Services for assistance with the succession.
