Milked for $18,000 and still not divorced

Replied last April 16, 2018Our office is prohibited from responding specifically based on the ethics rules set forth by the Louisiana State Bar. Since this poster decided to remain anonymous, we do not know who the poster is or if they were even a client. Generally speaking, if a client has a high bill it can be caused by many factors: the client wanting a telephone call every day to tell them the status of their case (even though nothing may be going on); an opposing counsel who files numerous pleadings with the court which requires our office to respond; numerous court appearances; a non-cooperative client who refuses to produce documents after numerous requests. As we explain to every client when they consult, we are not in control of how much time may be expended on their case. A non-cooperative client and a non-cooperative opposing attorney can escalate the amount of time spent on a client's case dramatically. We always attempt to settle cases in the most economical manner possible.
