Zachary Winston

Throughout his legal career, Zach Winston has worked tirelessly in the criminal defense and public interest law fields to zealously advocate for his clients. Zach’s practice covers the full range of criminal cases, from low-level misdemeanors to major felonies and Measure 11 cases. Zach also handles cases involving DHS investigations, expungement of eligible crimes, and traffic ticket cases.

Zach Winston was born in San Diego but grew up in Westchester County, New York. During high school, Zach played baseball, soccer, and lacrosse. As a lacrosse goalie, Zach achieved All-Section in the competitive Section 1 division and was selected for the Section 1 All-Star Game. Zach’s involvement in sports has shaped his competitive nature, which he uses to aggressively advocate for his clients. After high school, Zach interned at the Bronx Defenders and volunteered with the New York Civil Liberties Union and the National Lawyers Guild.

Zach moved to Oregon in 2013 to attend law school. Zach graduated cum laude from Western Connecticut State University with his B.S. in Justice and Law Administration and received his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School. During law school, Zach served as Treasurer and Auction Coordinator for the Public Interest Law Project, where he raised over $50,000 to fund law students pursing public interest law jobs. Zach pursued justice for vulnerable individuals and wrongfully incarcerated individuals through his pro bono work at the Oregon Justice Resource Center and Oregon Innocence Project. As a result of Zach’s commitment to pro bono work, he was awarded the Lewis & Clark Law School Pro Bono Certificate, a Public Interest Law Project Summer Stipend, and the Oregon New Lawyers Division Law Student Pro Bono Award. After law school, Zach joined Mark C. Cogan, P.C., where he has continued to aggressively advocate for clients while helping clients navigate the complex, and often frustrating, criminal justice system.
