William C. Gentry

William C. (“Bill”) Gentry is a partner with Petrelli Previtera, serving clients throughout Metro Atlanta from the firm’s Marietta office. Bill is a seasoned family law attorney with over 40 years representing clients in complex divorce and family law matters, including high-asset divorce, property division, child custody, alimony, and spousal support. Bill’s peers elected him President of the State Bar of Georgia in 2026 after years of service in statewide leadership roles, including Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect.

Bill has tried hundreds of cases in state and federal courts throughout Georgia. He has argued dozens of appeals in both state and federal appellate courts, including the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Atlanta. He is also a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Judges and opposing counsel know Bill as an honest, respected advocate for his clients. His courtroom experience allows him to quickly evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case, provide practical guidance, and achieve favorable results through negotiation or trial.

Leadership in Georgia’s Legal Community

Bill’s leadership extends well beyond the courtroom. In 2026, he became President of the State Bar of Georgia after serving as Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect. He is also the best-selling author of I Want Out: A Woman’s Guide to Finding Peace Through Divorce (Forbes Books, 2023) and has spoken and written extensively on family law, trial advocacy, and professionalism for the State Bar of Georgia, ICLE, the National Business Institute, and attorney seminars.

Committed to Serving the Community

Bill’s commitment to service extends beyond his legal practice. He is an active member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church and serves on the North Georgia Conference of the UMC Committee on Investigations. He has also held leadership roles within his church for more than 35 years and previously served on the Board of Directors of Mountain Top Boys Home.
