Discrimination 25%

Board-certified in civil trial law, business litigation and labor-and-employment law, I have since 1985 represented hundreds of employees injured by decisions based on such criteria as gender, age, race, national origin or disability. Ferreting out and proving discrimination can require focused, persistent discovery, as well as sophisticated experts to use scientific evidence of stereotyping to expose discrimination masquerading as fair evaluations.

Litigation 20%

Virtually everything The Amlong Firm does inovlves litigation -- suing over employment discrimination, defending a small business against a spurious wage-and-hour claim or taking someone to court for having cheated his partner in a business deal. We look at evey case coming through the door as one that will potentially wind up in front of a judge, jury or arbitrator. The way we resolve cases prior to going to trial is by having a reputation for being ready to go.

Sexual Harassment 15%

Sexual harassment is just another kind of discrimination. While sexual predators do exist, sexual harassment -- just as any type of harassment -- generally is a workplace bullies' using sexual-based talk and behavior to chase women out. Both types of sexual harassment are illegal. In Faragher v. City of Boca Raton, I convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to make businesses liable if they allow either one to happen.

Wrongful Termination 15%

Termination is called "the capital punishment of industrial jurisprudence." Wrongful termination can arise from discrimination, withholding of sexual favors, whistleblowing, or an arbitrary boss who just wants to be a bully. Statutes and "just cause" contracts protect workers, however, from what too many businesses think is unbridled "employment at will." I have reprsented scores of fired workers in court and before civil-service and arbitration hearings.

Lieutenant Firefighter Paramedic/ Registered Nurse

In 2007, I decided to take action against the sexual harassment, discrimination, hostile working environment, and retaliation that I faced while working as a firefighter. I decided to stand up against the actions committed by multiple men, that filled the positions from firefighter to chief to the ci...ty manager, that spanned 5 years of service. I retained the Amlong Firm in 2007 based on reviews by others. They were very transparent on how tough and long this process could take when attempting to go against a City. They stood by me and gave me the support, when others could not understand, just how taxing this process was. Regardless of how hard the opposition pushed, the Amlong Firm dug in, and defended even harder. My case involved multiple steps and courts, due to the gravity, but each step and court victory allowed for me to gain control back of what the City took away from me. The Amlong Firm not only fought on behalf of myself, but also for my family in regards to the harm they suffered while I was forced to endure the harassment, hostile environment, and retaliation. The Amlong Firm was able to retrieve everything I lost, but time. In return for the time, they gave me a more reknowned sense of self and inner strength that has placed me in one of the top leadership roles in my department. This event also taught my daughter when and how to stand up against harassment in the workplace if she were ever a victim of harassment, discrimination, hostile environment, or retaliation based on her gender.
