After experiencing a lot of corporate workplace trauma, one of the scariest things about starting my own business and serving as CEO was HR - more specifically, the pressure I placed on myself/the company to get our culture right and ensure our ducks were in a row so our future employees wouldn't hav...e to face what I have in the past. I've consulted with Taneen twice now - once right when we incorporated and again today when we reached a growth point to bring on independent contractors - and always what stands out to me each and every time is how cared for, listened to, and hopeful I feel after each conversation. She reminds me that HR and employment laws are ultimately about taking care of PEOPLE and that when it's done right, that's a beautiful relationship between the employer and employee that has profound effects on the business and company mission. So often, the law and ensuing legalese can make everyday folks trying to make good decisions feel intimidated, inadequate, and fearful. Taneen is masterful at popping that pressure bubble from the get go, building a real relationship with everyone she connects with, and ensuring people feel empowered in their actions. Her ability to recall labor and employment law across state lines demonstrates her expertise paired with her friendly personality and passion for demystifying the law creates such a safe and supportive environment for me to navigate my next steps with confidence. Last but not least, I cannot say how significant it is that Taneen operates at the intersection of a trained lawyer and experienced Head of People/HR lead. This vantage point really shows in her ability to offer support and foresight of things to be on the lookout for from the employer POV. I can't wait til we hit our next company milestone to expand our team so we can work with Taneen again!!
