I have retired from the practice of law and am currently not accepting clients.
I practiced law in state and federal courts in Washington and Idaho for approxiamtely 27 years. My practice emphasized employment and commercial litigation, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and wage claims.
In employment litigation, I represented both employers and employees. My goal was to provide cost-effective, personal and winning representation to individuals and businesses. I have successfully pursued and defended hundreds of claims for individual clients, private companies and public entities, including trials, hearings and arbitrations. I have handled dozens of contract disputes and negotiations, including non-compete and trade secret litigation, and employment severance ageements.
I have obtained favorable decisions in a number of significant cases from Washington appellate courts including Schryvers v. Coulee Community Hospital, 138 Wn. App. 648 (2007) (FLSA resident employee provisions applied in adult assisted living home); Chase v. Spokane Valley Fire Department, 139 Wn. App. 143 (2007) (pretermination procedures satisfied employee's due process rights to notice and an opportunity to be heard); Christensen v. Grant County Hospital Dist. No. 1, 152 Wn.2d 299 (2004) (administrative collateral estoppels applies to PERC hearings); Miguel v. Guess, 112 Wn. App. 536 (2002) (employee stated claim for sexual orientation discrimination under federal law but her discharge did not violate Washington public policy); Christiano v. Spokane County Health District, 93 Wn.2d 90 (1998) (limiting scope of employer’s duty to reasonably accommodate employee suffering from generalized anxiety disorder as a result of job stress); McLeod v. Northwest Alloys, Inc., 90 Wn. App. 30 (1998) (statute of limitations runs from date trade secret was disclosed).
I have been a member of the Spokane County, Washington and Idaho Bar Associations, and the Washington State Association for Justice (WSJA). I am a past president of the Spokane County Bar Association (SCBA), a co-founder of the SCBA Diversity Section, and served on the WSAJ Diversity Committee. I received my law degree with high honors from Gonzaga Law School; a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Denver; and graduated with honors from Bowdoin College.

Susan represented us in a labor dispute. She was organized, through, smart and determined. I believe we prevailed in the case because of her wisdom and knowledge of the law. We are very pleased with the outstanding work representing us.

Susan did a great job for us on a very convoluted labor claim. She was a pleasure to work with and yet, I would not want to be on the other side of the table from her. Very supportive and positive. She was brilliantly organized and kept us moving forward.
