Nell Rumbaugh

As Alliance Legal LLC’s solo associate attorney, Nell Rumbaugh has gained vast life and work experience since graduating from Eastern Washington University in 1989. After achieving a 4.0 GPA as a U.S. Student Ambassador to the Soviet Union, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Towson State University and was the recipient of the 1993-1994 Military Family Member Grant Award. Nell also earned the Disability Law Community Service Appreciation Award while attending the University of Maryland School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 2002.

Licensed to practice law in the states of Maryland and New York, Nell continues to apply years of experience in organization, coordination, and project management. As a Student Attorney, she provided legal consultation through the Civil Rights of Persons with Disabilities Clinic and drafted and submitted discrimination complaints to the Federal Department of Justice. Her time as a substitute teacher allowed her to hone her leadership and multi-tasking skills, while allowing her to serve severely-disabled students by creating a supportive environment conducive to learning retention. 

Working as a legal researcher, Nell reviewed and identified relevant documents for a Mass Tort Litigation Suit. In 2007, she received a fellowship at the National Military Family Association in California and participated yearly in a 12-month training addressed to aid military members and their families, until 2010. It was while working in this training that she received special recognition for creation of a program that focused on financial awareness; ultimately, this program was distributed and implemented at a variety of other military bases. 

Passionate about providing an atmosphere of hospitality and welcoming, Nell served as a Headquarters Host in the 2008 presidential campaign. Overseeing a network of volunteers and organizing countless meetings led an interview about her to be featured in El Nuevo Dia, a Puerto Rican newspaper reaching 155,000 subscribers. Nell is proud to be a Member of Elder Law Section of the MD State Bar Association, and Member of NAELA. She is a certified Mediator in the State of Maryland, trained as a Temperament Intelligence Facilitator, and has veteran accreditation. She is proficient in spoken and written Spanish. 

Nell’s legal career largely supports her philosophy of helping underserved communities. As a pro bono attorney, she drafted wills, advanced directives, and power of attorney documents for low-income seniors and first-responders. She is also skilled in guardianship case work involving disabled seniors and minors. Beginning in 2014, Nell combined her Spanish-speaking abilities and good Samaritan attitude in her role as Membership Coordinator for the Randolph Hills Civic Association, coordinating membership drive efforts directed towards seniors and Spanish-speaking residents. Her desire to include youth in her efforts led her to be nominated as Cluster Coordinator for the Down County Consortium (DCC), wherein her role is to oversee five high schools and all elementary and middle school feeder schools. As Cluster Coordinator, she worked closely with the Montgomery County Council, parent-teacher association presidents, and principles to effect desired policy changes.

Sworn in to the United States District Court in November of 2017, Nell now focuses her time in preparing documents for loss mitigation proceedings, immigration proceedings, and social security appeals. She also drafts pleadings for bankruptcy and loan modification documents. Nell is a proud participant in the Appointed Attorneys Program, which was founded to provide legal aid to persons lacking the basic resources necessary to life. These are the values that drive Nell Rumbaugh to continue practicing law for those often overlooked. 

Nell is a hands-on mother and currently taking on new clients.
