About Matthew
Biography
Matthew E. Ellis received his law degree from the University of Oregon
School of Law in 2007. He graduated with honors from Georgia Tech
with a bachelors of science in International Affairs. Between
undergrad and law school, Matthew was an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer,
serving in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He began his legal career
practicing criminal defense in Anchorage, Alaska, where he interned
with both the state and federal public defenders. Matthew cut his
teeth as an attorney at the Anchorage Courthouse and the
Anchorage Jail. He lived in Washington, DC for a time, assisting in
an investigation for the United States Department of Justice before
returning to Oregon. Matthew practiced family and criminal law for a
year in Hillsboro, Oregon, but could not resist the offerings of
practicing in the Columbia River Gorge with Morris & Sullivan. His passion is criminal law. He has won numerous felony level trials in multiple counties in the Gorge. Matthew is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Alaska.
NOTE: Matthew is no longer practicing criminal defense, but took office as the Wasco Co District Attorney in January 2021. He is no longer accepting clients.

Cannot recommend him enough
I received a traffic ticket while in Portland. Even though it was a small case, Mr. Ellis zealously represented my interests in a professional manner. I didn't have to take time off from work to be at court and the fine was reduced to the minimum.
