Kenneth F. Brooks has over ten years of experience in the intellectual property law industry. Ken’s practice covers a variety of IP and IP-adjacent matters including patent application drafting & prosecution, patentability opinions, clearance searches, trademark matters, as well as contractual agreements, royalties, and licensing. Ken focuses on helping individuals and companies protect their IP through a variety of strategies and leading techniques.
Previously, Ken served as General Counsel & IP Attorney at a mid-sized software corporation leading the in-house legal department where he successfully expanded the IP generation and protection program far beyond its original scope, helping cement the company as an R&D forward entity. His experience covered a range of matters including patent portfolio management, patent application drafting, patent application prosecution, licensing agreements, and SaaS and IaaS agreements.
Ken’s technical experience covers a range of technologies including integrated electrical & mechanical systems; mechanical systems; materials science; software/computer science arts; and consumer products and processes. More specifically, Ken’s experience includes autonomous driving systems, powertrain systems, exhaust gas management and recirculation systems, automotive cooling systems, turbochargers, materials science as applied to high-vibration and high-heat applications, coatings, medical devices and instruments, prosthetics, medical implants, medical practices, software-as-a-medical device, mobile applications, monitoring software, topography and mapping software, data management systems, and consumer products including household goods, toys, and quality-of-life products.
EDUCATION
Mr. Brooks earned a BS in Materials Science & Engineering with a Concentration in Enterprise Management in 2010 from Michigan Technological University and a Juris doctorate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2014. Ken is registered to practice law in Michigan, Minnesota, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
