John E. Reuter received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Government and Administration from Georgia State University in 1972. Mr. Reuter became a member in good standing in the Georgia Bar Association in 1979 after graduating from Atlanta Law School as a Herschel E. Cole Honor Graduate. While attending law school during the evenings, John worked full time during the day as a mail clerk and messenger for a large prestige law firm located at downtown five-points in Atlanta.
Mr. Reuter practiced law solo for two years in Clarkston, Georgia before returning to school to pursue an Associate Degree in the new and rapidly growing field of electronic engineering technology. Upon graduation in 1983 with High Honors, John spent the next 21 years building a successful engineering career in information technology as a telecommunications and electronic technician for a southeastern regional bank and two Georgia universities, a systems analyst for a southeastern electric utility information services company, a network engineer and a network manager for a Georgia international credit card processor and a major Georgia health care information processing company.
In August of 2003, Mr. Reuter left the field of information technology and reentered the legal field as a solo practitioner. Mr. Reuter is a volunteer on one of the Forsyth County Juvenile Court Citizens Review Panels and received intensive Panel Member and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) training to effectively participate as a panelist and advocate. With other volunteer members Mr. Reuter reviews Juvenile Court cases of abuse and neglect and submits recommendations to the Juvenile Court Judges.
In addition to misdemeanor criminal defense, juvenile defense and juvenile Guardian Ad Litem representation, Mr. Reuter specializes in adoption law and procedure, participating in a variety of activities, programs and training that provide in-depth legal and ethical expertise, including valuable contacts with other professionals working in the general area of adoptions and child advocacy.
Mr. Reuter served 2007-2012 as a director on the board of the Georgia Association of Counsel for Children, a non-profit professional membership organization dedicated to improving the legal representation of children and whose mission is to improve the lives of children and families through legal advocacy, training and education.
Mr. Reuter grew up and attended high school in East Point, Georgia and was actively engaged in local government and politics during the late 80s and early 90s, having run unsuccessfully city-wide for councilman after serving on the Business and Industrial Development Authority, the Cable Commission and the Recycling Committee.
Mr. Reuter and his spouse Patricia moved to Cumming in 1996. They have two daughters, two granddaughters, and three grandsons and enjoy boating on Lake Lanier.
Mr. Reuter retired from the practice of law 2012.
