I graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1999, took and passed the Bar Exam on my first test, and was admitted to practice by the Colorado Supreme Court in Oct. 1999. Prior to that time, I had graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy. I grew up in Green Bay, WI then moved to Scarsdale, NY, went to Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY and then to the Anglo American School of New York in Manhattan.
My father Fred S. Terner died when I was 15 years old, and my mother was not a financial maven, so I only did undergrad and law school in my 30's, and know more than most lawyers what real life is all about. Not having spent years in ivory towers helps inform me about the difficulties you may confront in life, and allows me insight into your possible resolution sets.
I lived overseas for over 10 years, then returned to the States, looked for and found a pre-business, pre-law private college (CMC) and then, as I was interested in Environmental Law, studied law in Boulder, Colorado. As I was an "adult student" I know the value of education and also have personal experience with student loans. So I knows how the bills pile up.
Originally working for a tech firm (that sent me to Hyderabad, India) after law school, I hung out my shingle after that firm went south. My friends at that firm became my first clients, and I worked with start-ups and sadly, also worked on a number of divorces. That laid the groundwork for my present foci. Some of my techie friends had to declare bankruptcy and I helped them through that process. Others got divorced or had post-decree divorce work (child support/custody and maintenance) that needed to get done. Many created start-ups and I worked with them to create, grow and nurture their business entities.
I have helped hundreds of Coloradoans file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Lately I spent 3.5 years in Singapore and returned to Colorado in November 2010 to help American clients. In Singapore, I joined my "beshert", a lovely scuba diver from Malaysia whom I had met while diving off the coast of Thailand, and who is working as a physician in Singapore. We married in 2008 and are the extremely happy and proud parents of a gorgeous little baby girl.
I pride himself on offering affordable legal services, and do not believe that legal representation should only be for the rich. Therefore, I offer extremely competitive and reasonable flat fee agreements for services in Bankruptcy. My hourly fee for family, business (civil) and estate work is kept below the industry average for attorneys of my experience so that people without great means can avail themselves of the protection of legal counsel. Documents like Wills, Demand Letters and the like are offered at Flat Fee rates.
I was admitted to the New York Bar in Oct. 2012, the probationary suspension by the CO Bar (due to a client from 2006-7 who waited until 2011 to complain, at which time I had no evidence to defend myself), of one month notwithstanding. I was just admitted to the District Court for the Western District of New York (2017) and the US Bankruptcy Court (Western District of New York).

Bankruptcy Discharge
Mr. Terner was extremely helpful and knowledgable in assisting me during my bankruptcy procedure. During this potentially stressful time, he kept me calm and informed every step of the way and was successful in getting my bankruptcy discharged. I would definitely recommend using Mr. Terner to anyon...

Very Helpful
I had previously seen another attorney who told me I could not file for bakruptcy despite my dire situation. Then I was referred to Mr. Terner who accurately evaluated my numbers, told me I could file, and handled the whole thing from start to finish in an amazingly short amount of time. Mr. Terner...
"Mr. Terner is an exemplary attorney who I would recommend to everyone and anyone. Hiring him might very well be the best decision that you have ever made. His answers on Avvo are perfect. I have practiced for 24 years as a judge, magistrate, prosecutor, and private attorney and he is one of the best I have encountered."
"Very astute and knowledgeable attorney. If I was dealing with a bankruptcy personally I would have David Terner as my attorney."

Suspension Stayed Placed on Probation issued in CO, 2012

“I moved to Singapore 2007, & returned to Colorado in 2010. Client from 2006 filed a grievance in 2012 regarding my handling of an employment issue re a potential employer whose employee represented to that client that he was in the hiring process. Retainer was used going over the possible case, but 6 yrs after the fact, I could not find the follow-up demand letters, and had to agree to conditional admission as I had moved countries (Singapore) & back.
