I hired Dan Hilker after my probate case had already become extremely contentious and, frankly, badly mishandled by prior counsel. I came to him with a complicated history, a large amount of documentation, multiple disputed issues, and an opposing side that was challenging virtually everything. Da...n immediately approached the case differently. Rather than getting pulled into the emotion and personalities surrounding the dispute, he focused on the evidence. He organized the accounting, identified the actual legal issues, used discovery strategically, subpoenaed relevant information, and forced the other side to move from broad accusations to specific facts. When mediation failed, Dan was fully prepared to litigate. At the contested accounting hearing, the judge ultimately approved my accounting in full because the opposing side could not provide sufficient specific evidence or a legal basis to disallow the entries. Watching Dan handle the case in court made it obvious how much preparation had taken place beforehand. What impressed me most was that he was always several moves ahead. His discovery strategy made considerably more sense once I saw how it played out at the hearing. He was building the record long before we ever walked into the courtroom. Dan is not the least expensive attorney you can hire. I learned the hard way, however, that the hourly rate is not the number that matters. What matters is what the attorney accomplishes with those hours. After experiencing both poor representation and excellent representation in the same case, I can say confidently that Dan was worth every dollar. The entire Mavacy team was professional, responsive, and organized throughout the process. They communicated clearly and treated my case as though the outcome genuinely mattered. I hired Dan at a point when I had become deeply skeptical of the legal process and of attorneys in general. He restored a lot of that confidence. If you are facing a straightforward matter, you may have many competent options.
