Amelia Katherine Lahn

In the days following my citation for OWI my life seemed to be spinning. Not a person accustomed to getting cross-wise with the law, I had no idea what awaited me personally, professionally or legally. I contacted Amelia for advice - she helped me navigate the initial process and I retained her immed...iately. She was able to both easily wade-through the legal aspects of the case while explaining, in simple terms, what was going on and advising me of my best options. She also helped me navigate the situation emotionally - helping me to understand that this happens to people, it could happen to a lot of people and that lawyers help you through it. From the vs. a public defender perspective: - I believe that I received a more favorable plea than if I had gone through the public defenders office - She helped file the motion for a Specialized Driving Permit - which allowed me to drive for work, other obligations and practicing of my faith - not available through a public defender I would hire her again if necessary (hopefully not, however) and would recommend her to a friend/colleague if it were ever required.

As a parent, you never expect that you will get a phone call in the middle of the night from your college student telling you that they need legal assistance. We got that call and contacted a lawyer in Chicago for advice. He recommended attorney Amelia Lahn. Her experience as the former Coordinato...r of Student Conduct at Indiana University’s Office of Student Ethics was invaluable in assisting our student in navigating through the University’s student conduct (ethics) process and the resulting meetings with the Dean of Student’s office due to the violation of the University’s code of conduct. Because of her experience, our student was treated fairly by the University and able to comply with the necessary steps to remove themselves from probation in a short period of time. In addition, Ms. Lahn also assisted with the criminal component of the infraction and worked with the court to get our student into the pre-trial diversion program as part of the penalty process thereby avoiding a trial. Ms. Lahn respectfully and frequently communicated with us throughout the process without violating our student’s privacy. Her fees are reasonable given the service she provides. We have also used her to assist our student in getting a security deposit back that the landlord refused to return. Overall, she is fair, reasonable, honest, and direct as to how she can assist your student in any legal manner they encounter. Both situations were an invaluable learning experience for our student (and us) and well worth the expense.

I am extremely grateful for Amelia Lahn. I was facing some hurdles at Indiana University with Disability Student Services, all the paperwork had been filed years earlier, I had records, communication (emails), and the office said "your basically screwed." I could find no help through the multiple off...ices at the University, and although sympathetic, nobody could give me a straight answer. I was feeling extremely frustrated and anxious. Amelia Lahn was recommended to me because of her experience working at Indiana University before going into private practice. Once I got her on board, filled her in, sent her all my records, her intervening was a game changer. I got answers and approval from the right people and a response from the Dean. For me, hiring Amelia Lahn was essential for continuing my studies at IU. I do not know what would have happened if she had not intervened on my behalf. INdiana University is fraught with confusing bureaucracy and she knows the inner workings of this. I cannot recommend her enough based on my experience.
