Karen Gwen Schweigert

Karen is an absolutely amazing lawyer and made my divorce / parenting plan issues be solved so much easier than I could have hoped for. I started my paperwork by myself, and ended up making things a mess and didn’t even have 1/2 the papers I needed! She helped me fill out my paperwork, explained everything that didn’t make sense to me, and helped me get everything filed to the right places and my plans pretty much finalized within 48hrs of starting them. Karen is a phenomenal attorney. When I went to Karen I was confused and scared, not knowing what to do or how the custody process worked. As a father, I was worried if I was not going to have a fair chance at custody of my son. She was so informative and explained everything to me throughout the whole process. Karen took my case a few years ago and she was better then I could of imagined. She’s exactly what you want in an attorney. She informed me of my options and was realistic about them. Showed me the pros and cons and let me make a decision. Once my decision was made she acted immediately. Setting up a restraining order, contacting my daughter school to inform them of the situation. The defendant constantly ducked being served papers. Karen had a police office go by her apartment multiple times within a day to make sure it was property served and it was. Karen always responded to phone calls and emails promptly if not right away which is priceless to me. She won my case and set things up so that the defendant could get clean and work to get custody of her daughter if she chose to do so. I can’t say enough good things about Karen. The only negative thing I can say is I was billed for every minute we talked. Which is understandable and way better then the alternative. I’ve had attorneys that give a little free time but were always hard to reach (no thank you). No ones time is free and having an attorney that you can reach pretty much anytime is priceless and I understand having to charge for that. My daughter wouldn’t be the amazing person she is without your help. My daughters mom has a drug and alcohol problem and is Native American decent. I was scared of going to tribal court and losing my daughter even though her mom wasn’t fit to have her. Karen knew exactly what to do the whole time and we didn’t have to go though tribal court. Let me just start by saying she is so awesome. After calling and emailing tons of lawyers to find out they can’t take my case or just wasn’t a fit for me, I found Karen. She is very understanding and let’s you get your story out and doesn’t speak over you. She was able to help me get what I wanted out of my divorce and is very responsive. Anytime or For anything I asked she was always there to give an answer. Karen and her assistant, Cherish are on top of their game. They kept me in tact as I was going through my very tragic divorce and domestic violence case. She also saved me a lot of money and always told me the best options for me. I had worked with three other attorney's in north Seattle that were expensive , highly sought after, and Karen's representation and guidance out did the original attorney's I had. I let go my other attorneys during a long two year extensive divorce litigation and Karen finished it within months of working my case. When I first consulted with Karen I knew right away that I wanted her to represent me. I felt like she wanted to know me, my history, my case, and what I wanted the outcome to be. She is SO kind and dedicated, but she is also direct and told me where I was hurting my own case. Once I hired her she got to work immediately and consulted with me to get every detail she needed. I felt like a priority and she could always recall details that I may have mentioned months ago. Whenever I emailed her she responded always within 12 hours, but most often within 1 hour, sometimes within 5 mins!!! Even when it was late at night, I’m not sure if she ever sleeps! Besides her professional qualities, she is also just a really nice person and easy to work with. My custody case was complicated, and needed a change from Florida jurisdiction. Karen did everything right and I was so impressed with her planning, preparedness, and strategy. She had the judge on my side and he wanted to hear my case in Washington. Unfortunately the Florida judge would not give up jurisdiction, which was a shock to myself, Karen, and the WA judge. So I could no longer litigate in WA and sadly could no longer have Karen represent me. I know if my case would have been heard in WA that she would have gotten me a favorable outcome! I am now litigating in FL and my attorney has not been able to fill her shoes as my lawyer. If I am ever able to litigate in WA I would return to Karen in a heart beat. I highly recommend her to anyone needing a family law attorney! She is also reasonably priced and is very fair in how she bills. She always says “I will not be a rich lawyer!” That is because she does this work out of a passion for helping people! Stop searching for a lawyer and call Karen right now!

I hired Karen for a child custody case that lasted from 2017-2019 and I couldn’t have picked a better lawyer to advocate for son and I. Karen gets to know her clients/ cases very well and really, truly cares about them, which is VERY different from the vast majority of attorneys. She explains things in a way that a non lawyer can understand and gives honest and realistic expectations, even if it’s not what you want to hear. It can be very difficult to write a review for someone (Karen) when there isn’t enough words to express fully, how beyond grateful you are. I never expected to feel this way about an attorney. Much less an attorney who had to walk and fight alongside me the painful path of separation, divorce and coparenting plans. With such a life altering event it can be difficult to fully wrap your head around what is happening. In the midst of the chaos, you need someone who can stay grounded, honest, kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. Someone to keep you focused, and I truly cannot say enough good things about Karen. When I say there are not enough words, I mean that. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for her hard work, dedication and commitment to me as her ongoing client. Karen goes above and beyond not only for her clients but in her field of work. Being someone who still has a lot of questions, I never have/had to worry if she will get back to me or not.
