Neglectful and Money Hungry

I hired Bevan as he came highly recommended and his family has a great name in Spokane. From the beginning he seemed to only be interested in money. I paid him $3500.00 to help with a child custody case. Not once did he ever act in a proactive manner to help the case along. I had to tell him and his ...assistant when and where the court hearings should be and what needed to be done. Lexie his assistant never answers emails or calls back. She acts as if she better then everyone and that any questions you might have a just a nuisance to her precious time. After 1 week of no answer to calls or emails I went to the office to only be scolded by her for showing up without permission even though I had paid $3500.00 to fight my case. My case was never treated as a priority and Bevan would always reschedule due to other cases being more important. I had to argue that I would not reschedule for the 4th time to actually get him to show up. He kept rescheduling with no regards for the time I was missing with my child. In the end he did absolutely not for my case and stated that I owed him money. He charged me $3500.00 for him to show up to court 3 times and file papers 3 times and have my ex served. We had to type all of the statements and do all of the leg work and research to prove my ex's lies. He claimed to have a good re-poor with the judge but it was very apparent that he did not. He would show up to court with absolutely no idea what was transpiring and needed me to fill him in with only 3 minutes till court started. In my opinion he is very unprofessional and is only concerned with getting your money.

JOKE!!!!! Stay away

What a joke! I worked with him and another attorney in his office and had all kinds of charges that were no real. He tried to charge me over $2000.00 in interest for being late/ not paying my bill and after I confronted him on it he dropped it to $800.00 Really? Even after our case was closed (yes we... did win no thanks to them. I got records from three states proving my ex wife was a child abuser/ felon/ and moved twice with out informing me per our parenting plan. She agreed to settle when her attorney told her the judge would run her up the flag poll and she would loses all visitation)

Very disappointed

Lexie, one of his assistants is absolutely hopeless. Do not expect her to help in your case. Don't expect help from her with how the law works or what are the best tactics to take in your divorce or what you might be forgetting or what would be helpful to you. If you are a lawyer yourself then they w...ill be great for typing up your motions etc., but if not, you will be on your own. Expected to know the law and what you ahould and shouldn't be doing. Lexie also sends reems of useless paperwork to opposing lawyers for their client to fill out and then does absolutely nothing with this information other than tick off the other side. If you are a normal person they will not be helpful or proactive with your case. Bevan meets with you only minutes before your hearings, doesn't remember or seem to take your situation seriously. I basically did all of the work myself and Bevan, along with Lexie, forgot or failed to address very important issues in the case. They are a very "after the fact" firm. I did manage to come out of it ok, only because I ended up doing a lot of research on my own, but that can only help so much. I am not a Lawyer, so I missed a lot of things that should have been a no brainer had the firm been helping the way you expect them to. I really believe things could have been much better and less stressful if they were much more proactive, had a game plan already laid out for their clients so that everything was covered and helped their clients BEFORE court and before issues were out of hand. They assume you know what should be done. They don't lead you through the process with all of the bases covered. And they allow you to waste valuable time and money on things that don't matter or won't even be discussed in court. They seem to be flying by the seat of their pants at every turn. Very disappointing considering they came highly recommended.

Very unprofessional Strictly monetary gain Ineffective court conduct Forgets court appearances waste of money

I had a family law matter, Bevan was some where else preoccupied. Only acted after it was to late if at all. Forgot to show up for 3 hearings, Briefings and info were 5 min before court. (Upon him not being there 5 min before, had to call him up and he was 200 miles away in a different city. He did s...end a emergency backup atty 15 min late for court which was very embarrassing for me and the backup atty, other circumstances he had a replacement atty shortly after I called him from the court room which I was very disappointed about ) It seems that he Rides on his fathers name and reputation and is overly focused on the monetary potential of the case. Interest and performance are directly related to how much money you have. Positive side and there's only one, he has some minimal clout with some Judges and his office is just a couple blocks from the courthouse. He was never prepared and didn't even argue the facts that I submitted, It seemed he relied on volume, impromptu standard procedure tactics, and on his legal secretary (Holley) excessively to bail him out, She was absolutely overwhelmed to the point of being unproductive. She did try very hard to fix the mess. I am also partly to blame for expecting support and advice about law and not being more knowledgeable, persistent and proactive myself. Anyone getting any attorney should at least know the basics of law and their rights, so they know what to expect and ask for. I had no knowledge whatsoever and thought that's what you hire an attorney for (They don't have time to teach you law! Prepare yourself before you get an attorney either online or through the library). If you let someone do it for you, they're going to do it to you! So know what you need and want before your in front of the judge with your future riding in your judges and attorneys hands.

Incompetent and overcharges

Handled my child custody relocation case in 2009 very poorly and seemed far more interested in money that getting a fair and expedient judgement. Paralegal (Jeannie) was unresponsive and did not follow directions. I was billed 2 hours to copy and paste a letter that I wrote and was then asked to ...number the pages because she couldn't figure it out. Used vulgarities about the other party in private conversations, but didn't back up the bravado with strong action in the courtroom. I did win the case on merit but don't feel that Bevan Maxey had anything to do with it; in fact, moments before the judge made her ruling, he indicated that "we" had lost.

"I had a client come to me after using Bevan on a domestic violence case that turned into a full blown divorce and custody battle. Bevan was very cooperative in helping me "get up to speed". In my work I drafted an appeal of the decision of the Commissioner before whom Bevan had argued previously. I listened to his arguments to this Commissioner. I found him to be calm and commanding, erudite and firm in his advocacy, even when the Commissioner was ruling against him and his client. I recommend him highly."
