All the 1 star reviews are the truth.

Lost everything, do not go to him. Please if you value your children do not go here. Secretary’s are the best part.

Child Support/Parenting Plan

I should've looked around for other lawyers but I went off reviews on google. Here is my personal experience: I went to Kevin Byrd to get child support and a parenting plan. I have my daughter 5 nights a week and work everyday. To sum it up, I ended up losing and receiving no child support. It's j...ust odd to me that WA is a women state and I'm the primary parent who once again have my daughter 5 nights... receive no child support. The moment the hearing was done, Kevin stop responding to my email and stated I would have to pay for additional advice. I wish I would've looked around and found a lawyer who empathizes with their clients and treat them as humans and not just a payment machine. I would just be cautious because I'm still confused on how I don't receive financial assistance and even the court order says I'm the primary parent. Also, I submitted documentations requested and they kept asking me for things I've already sent. The day of my first court hearing date he was no prepared, which made us push the date out a month. I just encourage people to shop around and find someone who is really involved with their clients cases.

BEST IN THE BUSINESS!!!!

I was referred to Kevin and his amazing team by another local attorney who wasn't accepting contested divorce cases. He's one of the few out there who does a free consultation to see if he'd be a fit. I was impressed from day #1. He listened intently and provided exemplary legal advice. I am still cu...rrently going through my divorce proceedings and he & his staff have guided me through every step. I trust his legal team fully and would recommend to anyone seeking honest legal counsel!!

Unprepared, Unprofessional, Wasted my money

I hired Kevin for my divorce. He did not inform me until after I gave my retainer that he was going to be out of the office on vacation the entire month of Aug 2016. My divorce motion was postponed due to this. I rarely got to speak to the man I hired. During each of my court hearings he was not pre...pared, he did not speak to me before hand and was late to the hearings. I watched him prepare what he felt was my argument issue based on what was written in the declaration statement. At one of my motions, he informed the pro temp judge that my soon to be ex husband's income went down which I gave him a nudge and told him it actually went up. He shushed me and took no regard for this. Because he represented this motion incorrectly. the pro temp judge lowered my child support lower than what my ex had requested. I told Kevin this the hearing and he said we could do a modification. He later sent me an email stating, "I f***ed up and urged me to do a revision which cost me $1000.00. I asked him for a discount since this was his error and he did not respond to my request. Emails also went unanswered multiple times. Kevin drug his feet on my case and did not help me. He did more harm than good. I ended up not having any attorney represent my case and did it myself. I ended up with the outcome that I would have expected Kevin to have gotten me while I retained him. He simply was not interested in helping me as much as he was wanting to take my money. My temp court documents were so messy that DCS had a hard time enforcing the orders. I will never use this attorney again, nor will I refer him.

Unprepared. Unprofessional. Not knowledgeable.

Unprofessional. Borderline incompetent, to the point we are looking into filing a formal complaint. Disorganized, loses important information. We were finding out about court dates and deadlines from opposing counsel, not him. Completely unprepared in court, stuttering and shuffling papers like it's ...his first time before a judge. Late to court. Does not advocate for his client. Does not answer questions, phone calls or emails. We paid him a $4k retainer for zero results. We switched to another attorney and he won't provide her the details and documents she is requesting and is holding up the process. His "legal assistant" is not knowledgeable or helpful, is crude and unprofessional, curses and does not file documents. Neither him or her will review/explain what they're asking you to sign. Please do not hire this attorney. Read the reviews on various sources on-line. Wish we had before we hired him.

First of all, this review is unfair because it is anonymous. It is difficult to respond to an anonymous review because I am not given any information about the particular client it involved or enough information to determine whether it is a true client at all. There are many known instances of false reviews posted by disgruntled former employees or competitors of attorneys. In my practice, I represent individuals, not groups. I can only assume this was a review posted by a disgruntled friend or relative of a client, if the situation was a client at all, because it uses the term "we". This review is also patently untrue. My staff and I always go over documents with clients first before asking them to sign them. I give legal advice (if I can) when asked and, many times, when not asked to do so if a client's bad behavior is brought to my attention. In the rare case where a client discharges me as their attorney, whether they go to another attorney or not, we always give them their file and financial documents promptly upon reasonable prior notice. We also promptly respond to all questions, phone calls or emails from clients or those interested supportive people around them who the client has released us to share information with. We routinely and directly notify clients of deadlines and court dates at all times. Lastly, I have over 34 years of practice. My practice did not last this long by being unprofessional, incompetent, unorganized, unprepared in court or not advocating for my clients. This could not be further from the truth. Further, I cannot believe this client got zero results. A lawyer cannot guarantee any particular result in a client's case, so I suspect this person, whoever it was or might be, simply did not like the results of a court hearing. In any event, due to the inherent nature of my practice, my clients are oftentimes in the worst situation in their lives and many times are angry, vengeful and bite the hand that tries to assist them. In the event this review was truly posted by a client of mine, I would invite the person to contact me directly about their case or their complaints to discuss them with me. I see this person, whoever it is, is still represented by counsel and I wish them good luck with their case into the future.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
