Biography
Christopher P. Taylor is an experienced attorney and mediator dedicated to serving families and individuals throughout Skagit, Snohomish, Island, and Whatcom counties. A Bothell native, Chris launched his career as a deputy prosecutor in Ellensburg, where he prosecuted district court and sensitive sexual assault cases. He later joined private practice, handling diverse matters from family law and dependency proceedings to criminal defense and estate planning. Chris has also served as a pro tem judge and is known for his practical, client-centered approach. Since opening his own practice in Mount Vernon in 2012, Chris has focused on family law, adoption, mediation, and estate planning. He returned briefly to public service as a deputy prosecutor before resuming his private practice in 2025 to work more directly with clients and support the community. Chris is trained in collaborative law and facilitative mediation, and is a Skagit County Superior Court-approved mediator. He resides on Camano Island with his family, enjoys outdoor activities, and maintains a steadfast support for the Mariners.
Mr. Taylor has been practicing family law for 15 years, and within family law is now focused on the collaborative method for divorce, acting as a mediator for divorce and child custody cases, and doing adoptions and minor guardianship cases (non-parental custody).

Worthless consultation
Total waste of money. When asking for help for an equitable divorce, he kept asking how much are you willing to lose. When stating I wanted to split everything equally and fairly, he kept asking on a figure that I will be able to lose?!?!?

Replied last July 08, 2020Consults are usually only about 45 minutes, which goes very quickly. I'm sorry this person didn't find the consult valuable and I'd be willing to talk with them again. I don't know which consult this was, but I can say that I purposefully challenge people in consults to see if they can consider alternatives, or even alternate ways of phrasing a question, and be flexible in their thinking and approaches to a problem. Finding solutions isn't about rigidity, it's about thinking dynamically and responding to alternatives to see if they could also work for a client's goals. In a way, I'm trying to provide a brief service in a consult and also weigh whether I want to work with someone long-term. If this person did say they wanted an equal division, and I asked this person how much they were willing to lose, and they couldn't answer that question, or got frustrated at that question, then I learned something about them. It's a pretty easy question really, if they want an equal division, then they are willing to lose 50% of everything in theory. In my consults I try to do a lot of listening and asking questions, before I give advice. People know more about their lives than I ever will. I try to be compassionate and also straight forward. My practice has been so full that I haven't taken new clients in quite a few months, but I'd like to get back to doing consults because I enjoy meeting new people and seeing how I can help.

Replied last February 22, 2018In my opinion, this was the most difficult client I've worked with over the last ten years. This case occurred quite a few years ago. As an attorney I have an ethical duty to understand an agreement, and counsel about it with a client, and to treat the other party with respect. This person handed me some notes and demanded that I type up what was written immediately. I tried to explain to this person my process as an attorney. When I met the other side I understood immediately that the "agreement" was not legally complete, in my opinion. I was met with hostility for asking questions, and trying to be thorough. The attorney-client relationship is a voluntary one in civil law and I am happy to leave a case where the relationship is not working. I'd say this case is analogous to someone going to a surgeon to heal a wound, and getting angry at the surgeon for doing an intake, wanting to examine the wound, make an independent diagnosis, and then making recommendations on how to treat the wound. If this person left the surgeon or my office and went to Rite-Aid or a paralegal and got a Band-Aid that worked for them, then good for them.

Replied last November 02, 2012I do not know who this former client is. I suppose the disadvantage of online, anonymous reviews is that interpersonal, constructive communication is not possible. I would invite this person to please call me, or stop by my office so we can discuss the specific criticisms here, so I can improve. I can say that my office has a policy to always respond to clients within 24 hours. I am available via email, phone and in person. In one recent case, based on a client's needs, we sent over 65 emails in a four month period, I met with her every week and a half, and we talked on the phone in between those meetings. This type of contact is common during a busy case. I am grateful for each one of my clients, and recognize that each one is unique. I try to give objective and informed advice based on the law and my experience from the very start of a matter. I have observed that cases work out better when clients follow my advice, as sometimes it is hard for people to see the weaknesses in their case, the risks in their actions, or not to make decisions based on the strong emotions inherent in dissolution.
