Shyster

Patty was very unfriendly from the start. Since she has a strong resume we decided to hire her anyway. After I had a retainer paid, all communication halted. I had to call Rose, at the front desk, for information and each time it seemed like was a huge inconvenience. Rose was abrasive, short and clue...less. Her response to most questions was "We will see what Patty says." This even occurred when Patty was 10 feet away. I was never asked what I wanted in the case. So, anything I needed to say to Patty had to be done in the 15 minutes before court, while she fumbled through several case files. This cold-hearted pair define SHYSTER. Do not waste your money and time. Family Law if far too important for Patty's lackadaisical attitude towards your future, and getting passed Rose and her terrible attitude is daunting enough.

It is difficult to answer an anonymous complaint as there is no way to respond directly to the allegations being made. However, since a general allegation, here is a general response to the issues. First, I always give a consultation with a potential client with the first half hour for free. If the individual doesn't not think I am friendly or more importantly, can't do the job, then do not put forward a retainer. Second, every client walks out of my office with a written, signed retainer agreement in their hand. It clearly states my hourly rate and the terms of my employment. I also emphasize to every client that "my time is your money" meaning that for every call, email, court appearance, preparation of documents, etc. my time involved is billed out hourly. I want client's to keep that in mind to use their time wisely while communicating to me. So, I also stress that communication from me will be on an as needed basis. I try not to run up their bills needlessly. After 33 years of practice, I have learned how to do my job as efficiently as possible. Third, my legal assistant is just that, a legal assistant. That means that she cannot give legal advice, only the attorney can do that. So, she tells the client that she cannot give legal advice, and would have to consult with me. That is required to avoid malpractice. Fourth, I rarely have more than two cases at a time on any motion docket in Superior Court. I never fumble through cases, and always have my proposed Temporary Orders in the file and ready to go. Finally, part of my retainer agreement states that a trial retainer must be paid one month in advance of trial. Trials are very involved and time consuming. If payment is not made, then I have no choice but to withdraw from representation. I too have bills and overhead to pay.

Satisfied Client

In 2014, I consulted with an attorney in Everett, WA who helped me with temporary orders regarding a Legal Separation. Later, my husband and I decided to dismiss/suspend the Legal Separation. By March/April of 2015, I knew I needed an attorney's assistance again and decided to restart the Legal Sep...aration process. The attorney I had used originally was unavailable to help me right away, so they recommended Patty Nelson. Since the Spring of 2015 to date, I continue to utilize Patty for legal issues concerning my situation. She is extremely knowledgeable with an amazing history of experience. Not only has she been a family law attorney, but she is also a mediator and a pro-tem Snohomish County Commissioner. She knows what to expect based on current court trends/cases where she has been involved as an attorney, mediator or commissioner. Her experience in these different positions makes her unique and valuable to her clients. Additionally, Patty works in a modest office with one assistant. She and Rose make an excellent team and are very efficient. The costs associated with my dealings with St. Clair Law are much lower than what I paid in dealing with the much larger office I had utilized in the past. Patty has mentioned several times that a divorce (or separation) shouldn't break the bank. She does her best to make recommendations to her clients in order to minimize the cost of the process. Unlike other attorneys, there is no monthly fee for holding your deposit, and there are no "hidden charges" for which you were not previously aware. I appreciate Patty as an attorney, her professionalism and desire to make her clients' experience with her as economical as possible. I personally appreciate that since I have had to solicit her services several times after the original proceedings were finished.

Non-contested divorce

I recently hired Patricia Nelson for a fairly simple non-contested divorce. Patricia walked me through the process, prepared and filed the appropriate documents and represented me in court. She was helpful, courteous and professional.

Great service - Highly Recommend

Patty was straight forward, knowledgeable about the divorce process, clear in the required steps it takes to move a divorce through the Court system, and efficient with her time, and my time, when processing my divorce. This saved me and my ex-wife a lot of money in putting together an amicable sett...lement agreement that was fair to both parties. Patty and her legal assistant Rose are a great team and I would highly recommend them to anyone going through a divorce.
