Charged with felony assault, reduced to a gross misdemeanor

Ray is an exceptional lawyer. I was in a situation where I was entirely surprised to have had an assault charge levied against me. After consulting with multiple lawyers, Ray's confidence, articulation, and demeanor made me sure he was the right lawyer for me. His experience as a former prosecuto...r was evident and invaluable throughout the legal process. He made sure I understood every step of the way what my options were as well as the risks. He meticulously explored various ways we could resolve my case as a dismissal of charges, and fought hard to do so. I had concerns related to employment as well, and Ray made sure I got help from legal experts that would be able to aid me. He ensured he understood my goals and worked hard to help me achieve them. In the end, we resolved my case as a gross misdemeanor with no time served in a jail and 12 months probation. Not only that, but after we resolved my case and he had no obligation to help me anymore, he continued to be available to answer any clarifying questions I had. He repeatedly reached out to see how I was doing and he helped me work through how to talk to my family and friends about what happened. A+ lawyer; you would be lucky to work with him.

Had never been arrested before

I was fortunate to have Ray recommended to me in defense of an assault charge against me in which I was protecting private property from serial vandalism. I thought I was doing the right thing in defending against an individual who was damaging private property, but it turned out that I was the one w...ho ended up getting arrested and going to jail. I had never been in any legal trouble before and, finding myself in jail, had no idea how to make my case. Ray quickly took action and began to outline the situation for me. Not only did he assess that I had a valid legal position to defend, but he ascertained from the information that he was putting together that we would be going up against a weak case from the prosecution and should certainly dig in and put up a vigorous defense. Ray was professional and thorough in outlining not only the landscape of the case, but also the tiered positions the prosecution would likely take along the way, and what the possible outcomes of those could be. Ray was also very reassuring and calm in his demeanor along the arc of my case. This felt supportive for someone like myself who was quite nervous having not been in any legal trouble before. Ray's skill, thoroughness and insight -- both in the courtroom and in consultation -- led me to value and trust his advice. I made the decision to continue to trial rather than go for a plea deal, at which point the prosecution folded, as Ray predicted, with a weak case against me. I would recommend Ray without hesitation. I feel very fortunate to have had him recommended to me.

Outstanding Attorney, hard-working, experienced, smart, achieves excellent results.

Ray is an outstanding attorney who brings his experience working in the prosecutor's office and as a Judge to his many years of experience as a criminal defense attorney. We found Ray to be optimistic and positive as we went through our experience, which we found very helpful (we were scared enough).... He worked very well with all of us, including our teenage son, and it was reassuring that Ray knew everyone we encountered in the Judicial system and that they respected him so much. Ray is an excellent communicator, with superior verbal skills and a commanding voice and presence. We appreciated this in our hearings. The thorough research he did prior to our final hearing and the letter he wrote based on that research was so powerful - and no doubt contributed significantly to the outcome we achieved. What really mattered to us is that beyond Ray being an outstanding attorney, he is a good man.

Ray Mcfarland - Criminal Defence Lawyer

Immediately before I met Ray, I was in a very precarious position legally and emotionally. I quite literally did not know what was happening nor what might happen to me in my case. I decided to hire Ray who, after just one discussion together, gave me a lot of really accurate information and starte...d to take proceedings down an entirely more postive track for me legally. Without Ray's introduction to my case I fear the worse may have happened to me. Ray is confident, positive and intelligent - but perhaps more importantly - he is exceedingly experienced. When Ray is at your side before a judge and opposite the prosecution you know that you can rely upon his 27 years of experience as a pro tem judge, prosecutor and criminal defence lawyer to give you the best aid possible. He really knows what he is doing and what everyone else in the process is doing (or should be doing); usually more so than any of the others in the courtroom. The fact that he is genuinely a nice guy to be around is a real added bonus. If you don't use Ray as your criminal defence lawyer you are probably doing yourself a disservice. I simply could not recommend him more

Cases with a mental illness component

I previously served as the President of NAMI Eastside (National Alliance on Mental Illness, Eastside Affiliate, Redmond, Washington) for a period of six years. During that time Ray provided service to NAMI Eastside member families who required a variety of legal services for family members with seri...ous mental illness. In all case, Ray was reported to be highly knowledgeable, responsive and creative in his legal solutions. Ray gets the job done! I would strongly recommend Ray’s services in cases that have a mental illness component. Mike Maloney
