Over many years, first as a public defender and later in private practice, I have advocated for ordinary people from all walks of life, many of them facing serious criminal charges and the complete loss of freedom a conviction would bring. I listen carefully and offer my best professional judgment in evaluating a client's case and in trying to negotiate a fair resolution. When necessary, and always acting with the client's interest in mind, I challenge the prosecutor's evidence in court.

The criminal penalties are often stiffer in the federal system, and it is usually more efficient and better resourced than the state system. The criminal cases there often involve large drug quantities, firearm violations or white collar fraud, some of which carry mandatory minimum sentences. Despite the difficult challenges in this system, I prefer working with federal cases.

"White collar crime" includes credit card fraud, employee embezzlement, forgery, insurance fraud, bank fraud, and identity theft, among other crimes and is often charged in both state and federal court.
