also known as A.J. Neff
Austin J. Neff’s first civil jury trial resulted in a $1.08 million dollar jury verdict for the victim of a nerve injury and their family, marking the largest jury verdict of its kind in the history of Lewis County, Washington. But Austin has been trying cases to jury – and winning – since before graduating law school, under Washington State’s Admission and Practice Rule 9.
Austin was named the APEX Young Lawyer of the Year in 2024 by the Washington State Bar Association in recognition of the results achieved for his clients and his contributions to the Washington legal community. That same year, Austin was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers, an honor given only to the top 2.5% of attorneys under the age of 40 in Washington State.
Austin began his legal career at the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted King County’s violent offenders. Today, his practice focuses on catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability, sexual abuse, and motor vehicle accidents.
In addition to his work in the courtroom, Austin is always willing to negotiate or mediate on behalf of his clients. He has recovered millions of dollars in settlements since joining Osborn Machler in the spring of 2021. Many of these cases are confidential due to their subject matter or the identity of the parties.
Austin received his undergraduate degree from the William O. Douglas Honors College at Central Washington University and played defensive back for the Wildcats. He went on to attend the University of Washington School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board, won both the mock trial and settlement negotiation competition, and graduated as a member of the National Order of the Barristers, the highest honors for oral advocacy.
Austin was named to the Pro Bono Honors Society in recognition of his service to others during law school. He has previously served as the Co-Chair for the Washington State Bar Association’s Trial Advocacy Program, which teaches trial practice to aspiring trial attorneys in Washington State.
