Comments on successful divorce proceedings by Leslie Olson for Seattle writer

Ms Olson guided me through what turned out to be a very contentious divorce whose proceedings lasted over a year. My spouse was asking for 70% of all assets and stocks, all savings, all my 401(k) and IRA, plus maintenance; and that I pay all legal fees, and all debts—that I did not incur, and denied ...that we had a dependent child (still in school). Additionally, my spouse provided nearly nothing in discovery, including refusing to respond to direct requests for things like work history, credit card account info, and current work situation & salary, nor supplying any of the 10 years financial records my spouse had boxed and stored. Leslie provided constant help, information, communication, and advice throughout this process, identifying what we might do, and how we might do it. She was a constant source of support, and continually came up with new ways to handle the stonewalling. She provided great legal advice, and fierce advocacy, constantly suggested options, gave pro and con for each option, and let me make the choice—which she always supported. Ms Olson successfully rebutted a request for pre-disbursal of funds, where my spouse asked for $35,000 in cash and savings, in addition to two large tax refunds (from my income) totaling over $12,000. She showed in court that my spouse had quit working, moved out of state, and was not attempting to generate any personal income while asking for support. The court subsequently granted my spouse only $2500 in cash and one of the two tax refunds—saving me a huge out-of-pocket expense. During discovery, Ms Olson and her office uncovered five separate credit accounts my spouse had without my knowledge, and uncovered profligate spending patterns, max’ed out credit cards, and repeated late fees. She recommended expert witnesses for help with house appraisal, stock evaluation, and transferable job skills and labor market assessment. During mediation, Ms Olson’s superlative grasp of financial matters allowed her to negotiate a settlement that provided my spouse less than half my 401(K) , and less than a third of the stock and savings I had built up, as opposed to the 70% percent originally requested. In addition, Leslie managed so that I retained our house & furnishings, and car, and did not have to pay the legal fees or debt acquired by my spouse. Nor was I required to supply maintenance to my spouse. Ms Olson is professional, personable, always responsive (including evenings and weekends), knowledgeable about the law & Washington court procedure, and managed to stay on schedule with my issue even though she was required to serve jury duty for nearly a month during our case. Throughout the entire process, Ms Olson and her staff were always available to answer questions, and always kept me advised about what was going on. I always felt understood, and supported. The attitude of everyone in the office made this unpleasant experience much easier to tolerate because of their support, assistance, and personal communications.

Leslie J. Olson client testimonial

I feel that I am extremely fortunate to have been represented by Leslie J. Olson in matters relating to the dissolution of my 17 year marriage. I chose to retain Ms. Olson after having asked several friends in the legal community for recommendations. Ms. Olson was recommended independently by three i...ndividuals. The outcome of my long, and difficult case makes absolutely clear that I was given very good advice. I don't believe that my interests could have been better served than they were by Ms. Olson. At every stage of the legal process I was impressed by Ms. Olson's knowledge of the law, tenacity, thoroughness, and dedication. I felt that our case was a collaborative effort, and that Ms. Olson could not have been more tactful, or sensitive to my feelings and concerns. I'm extremely grateful to her for her help, and would recommend her services, without reservation to anyone needing help getting through a divorce.

Ms. Olson Is Your Advocate

I feel truly blessed to have had Ms. Olson (and Mr. Olson) represent me through my dissolution process. Her knowledge, compassion and professionalism are commendable as is her countenance in the courtroom. Ms. Olson maintained her high standards of practice, even when dealing with each of my ex (yipp...ee!!) husband's difficult and unresponsive attorneys (3!). Her attitude is positive yet realistic and her research thorough.

Intelligent Honest Lawyer

First and foremost, Leslie is professional. She is honest and straight forward. I've never doubted her. She worked incredibly hard for my best interest and welfare. She was aggressive with opposing counsel, yet caring towards me as a client. I needed the guidance she provided for me, and I felt legal...ly protected. I won my case. She was honest when speaking of attorney fees. Not only is she extremely intelligent, she is one of the most well spoken and literate persons I have ever met. She is going to help me in the future with other legal issues. I would highly recommend Leslie, as her litigation abilities are unsurpassed.

"I've known Leslie at least 15 years. Over this time, she's assisted several of my family law clients whose cases have gone to the Washington Court of Appeals. To help a client at this level, it is not enough to merely know the complexities of Family Law. The attorney must also be skilled in the procedural rules of Appellate Law. Leslie is proficient in both. If you need representation in an appeal of your family case, Leslie is well-qualified and a formidable advocate for her clients."
