You deserve a counselor who listens and actually hears; a teacher who transforms complexity into clarity; a general who wields forces deftly; a diplomat who elicits common purpose; and a warrior who fights like a Spartan. And you deserve a friend who protects and comforts along the way. A trial attorney must be each of these.
A little about me…. I attended school in the Highline School District. After graduating from Tyee High School, I earned an undergraduate degree from Duke University, a graduate degree from Georgetown University, and a law degree from the University of Washington. I was admitted into the Washington State Bar in 1995. Since then, I have worked as a litigator. In 2003, I founded The Barton Law Firm to fight for people cheated and abused by employers. In 2014, The Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College ("TLC") admitted me. I refined my trial skills at TLC's twenty-four-day intensive trial-training course on Gerry’s ranch in Wyoming, and I continue refining those skills as an active member of the local TLC group.
I am committed to fighting for my client's justice. There was a time when my family needed that commitment.

John was super compassionate and empathetic to my situation which was something I had experienced before. He was great about checking in and advising me when I got stuck.

Perhaps even more rare, he has an unshakable commitment to practicing law in an honest and ethical manner, while at the same time vigorously representing his clients."
